He went to his neighborhood elementary school, St. Theresa’s in [[Bandra]], Mumbai. After completing his high school at St. Theresa’s he enrolled at the RD National college where he studied electronics for two years and got into Engineering. Simultaneously he enrolled at St. Xavier's College where he studied a year of math, statistics and economics. By age 18 he decided that he wanted to change tracks and become a sailor, as it was an assured career path and paid well. Carlton Braganza is an Indian musician who was the subject of media coverage during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns because of his hour-long "Jukebox Jammies" music sessions.[1][2][3]
Early life and Education
Carlton was born in Bombay, (now Mumbai) on 19th March 1972 to Tony Braganza and Jane (née Pais). His father Tony was born in Goa and worked in the Central Railways. His mother Jane a school teacher was born in Mumbai. Carlton has a younger brother named Royston.
He went to his neighborhood elementary school, St. Theresa’s in Bandra, Mumbai. After completing his high school at St. Theresa’s he enrolled at the RD National college where he studied electronics for two years and got into Engineering. Simultaneously he enrolled at St. Xavier's College where he studied a year of math, statistics and economics. By age 18 he decided that he wanted to change tracks and become a sailor, as it was an assured career path and paid well. Following his new interest in sailing Carlton joined the Merchant Navy and completed his Chief Mates and sailed till 1997.[4]
As a child he was very interested in art and music and was part of several choral groups. Through school and college he won numerous art and singing competitions.
Career
Carlton married Eugenia Campos in Jan 1998 and with his wife he started 'Trump it' a boutique events and creative company. Together they started Opus, a music and art 'restobar' in Bangalore, in 2013. A second Opus was opened in Whitefield, Bangalore with a third in Pune. His next venture was myopusradio, India’s first internet radio station for international music.
Carlton's wife died in 2009.
During the COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdown in India in 2020, Carlton started "Jukebox Jammies" on 22nd March 2020. [5][6] The events ran for almost 250 episodes, receiving more than 10 million views across Facebook and YouTube by the end of 2021. [7]
Carlton launched a virtual talent hunt 'Kroaking' in 2022.[8] Carlton performed with Natalie Di Luccio at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in 2023.[9]
Awards
Carlton Braganza was felicitated at the INCAIndia Awards 2021 for his contributions during the pandemic.[10]
