History
In Spring 2012, Good Universe was launched as longtime partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane transitioned out of Lions Gate Entertainment, where Drake served as the president of the Motion Picture Group and Kahane as the president of Mandate Pictures.[1] The company launched at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.[2][3]
On March 5, 2014, it signed a pact with production company Point Grey Pictures, led by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, in order to set up a joint venture to produce comedy movies.[4] On February 6, 2017, Fede Alvarez partnered with the company to set up Bad Hombre, which would produce films in the science fiction and horror genres.[5]
On September 2, 2015, the company hired Kelli Konop to serve as executive vice president of physical production for the company.[6]
In 2017, Good Universe became a subsidiary of Lions Gate following Drake's return to the company as co-chair of the motion picture group.[7] A year later, Nathan Kahane joined Lions Gate to serve as executive vice president of production at the company.[8]
