In portrait mode on mobile browsers, the equation for the general form of the probability density function in the article summary appears below the infobox, meaning that the first paragraph on the page appears to abruptly end at "The general form of its probability density function is", which had me confused until I scrolled down past the infobox. It might be a good idea to rearrange/reorder things such that the aforementioned 'incomplete' sentence and the equation that completes it would stay together, whether that means moving them both above the infobox, or below it. With unknown mean and unknown variance equations

I tried implementing this and got tiny variances. Searching around, I found https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/365192/bayesian-update-for-a-univariate-normal-distribution-with-unknown-mean-and-varia where someone else tried and got tiny variances. As far as I can tell, it works nicely if we don't divide by the total observations (or obs+pseudo) in the final distribution. I don't know how to prove such things. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.146.32.69 (talk) 16:19, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Walsh Hadamard transform and the Normal Distribution

I eventually found this paper on using the Walsh Hadamard transform: [1] Wallace, C. S. 1996. "Fast Pseudorandom Generators for Normal and Exponential Variates." ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software.

I independently discovered the idea myself around 2001. I further showed that by combining the Walsh Hadamard transform with random permutations you can convert arbitrary numerical data into the Gaussian distribution. I am not sure if anyone has any prior claim to that. I have used it to create associative memory algorithms and as a population based method for generating random numbers for Evolutionary Strategies (ES) based algorithms. I am sure it would have other uses. A useful reference is [1] I am pretty sure NVidia got the idea from me (because I sent them an e-mail about it). They did however find the reference to Wallace which I could not find. Maybe you can still find some of my code on the forum of www.freebasic.net but a lot of it is gone from the Internet because no gain. Sean O'Connor

PDF formula is wrong.

The pdf formula in the some sections is missing a minus sign. In the right column the pdf is correct. Ron.linssen (talk) 08:33, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
