Steve Bartelstein is a American television news reporter and anchor. He was most recently the co-anchor of WABC-TV's Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon alongside Lori Stokes. His last day on WABC-TV was Friday, March 9, 2007. He was reported fired, according the the NY Daily News on March 14th, for sleeping through a newsbreak to report on a house fire. As reported this was not the first time he was absent from duty including showing up 20 minutes after a news broadcast start time. He came to WABC from CNN. He has previously worked in South Carolina, Indiana, and Oregon.

Career

Steve began his broadcasting career as a weekend anchor at age 19 in Evansville, Indiana. He was hired at WABC-TV originally as a weekend sports anchor for the morning broadcasts in 2000. He was promoted to co-anchor WABC's weekday morning newscasts in 2001 along with the hiring of Lori Stokes, in effort to improve WABC-TV's ailing morning news ratings. The pairing was a success as they were able to bring the newcast into the number one position in the 5-7AM and noon time slots.
