Steve Bartelstein is an American television news reporter who co-anchored WABC-TV's morning and noon news shows alongside Lori Stokes. His last day on WABC-TV was Friday, March 9, 2007.
Bartelstein began his broadcasting career as a weekend anchor at age 19 in Evansville, Indiana. He also worked in South Carolina, Indiana, and Oregon. Then he came to WABC from CNN.
He was hired at WABC-TV originally as a weekend sports anchor for the morning broadcasts in 2000. He was promoted to co-anchor WABC's weekday morning newscasts in 2001 along with the hiring of Lori Stokes, in an effort to improve WABC-TV's ailing morning news ratings. The pairing was a success as they were able to bring the newcast into the number one position in the 5-7AM and noon time slots.
He was the first WABC anchor to break the news on air that a plane had hit the World Trade Center during September 11, 2001. [1]
