The answer to the Yog question…

The nickname Yog came from Andrew Ridgeley’s inability to pronounce George’s real name Georgious, Which when pronounced in Greek by his family members sounds like it starts with an English Y sound eg: Yorgious , which Ridgeley stated sounded like yogurt thus the nickname Yog was invented. At the height of whams fame (or just before) some of George’s best friends clubbed together to buy him a gold wedding-type ring which had the name YOG inscribed on it in bold letters. 2A02:C7D:89A6:7100:D583:30E7:7ED5:9BCB (talk) 20:55, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Birthtime of George Michael and his deathtime

George Michael was born at 6:00 AM (05:00 GMT) on Tuesday, 25 June 1963, and died at 13:42 GMT on Sunday, a Christmas Day of 2016. Birthtimes and deathtimes are important because the difference of timezones. The standard timezone of Wikipedia is GMT, not including DST. 177.138.16.179 (talk) 10:24, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We don't usually note times of birth or death. We generally just use the day for the time zone of birth? He was born and also died in England. What possible confusion could arise? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:13, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WP:TIMEZONE indicates that we date events using the timezone where it took place. In the profoundly rare situation where someone had reason to calculate the date somewhere else in the world, they can research it elsewhere; that's not what Wikipedia is here for. Jason A. China

The first rock group to visit China was not Wham! It was the Moody Blues in 1972. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Braggbrat (talkcontribs) 14:18, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Braggbrat. I wonder do you have a source for that, as it does not appear at The Moody Blues? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:18, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note that this 2012 Q&A session with Justin Hayward says this:
"Can you give us the final definitive word on what happened re: the gig to have been played in China in 1974? (there have been a few conflicting stories)
"As I remember (and there will be different memories from each of the band members), the promoters just didn’t come up with a contract or a guarantee of work visas. Both of which were essential. It wasn’t our idea to go, we were invited to play there. It was a project that we all got excited about – it just didn’t happen."

Picture

Hi fellow wikipedia enjoyers,

I'm not entirely sure of the process of this, but I see that the main picture for this article has been updated to a more recent one, instead of the ''Michael onstage during The Faith Tour in 1988'' one that was there for a long time. I much prefer the old picture as I think it shows him in his heyday, and I would vouch for that one to come back instead of this newer picture. Is there any sort of voting that goes on or official way I could express this?

Thanks a lot,

Romeowth (talk) 16:37, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The old picture captured him in his prime. That’s how I want to remember George Michael. Kylemanzo (talk) 23:05, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
