Odisha Floods 2022 ( ଓଡିଆ (Odia): - ଓଡ଼ିଶା ବନ୍ୟା ୨୦୨୨ ) was one of the worst floods ever occurred in Odisha in the decade since 2011 which lasted from 14 August 2022 to 07 September 2022. [1]
The main causes of the floods were the extensive rains which started from 3rd week of August 2022, due to the "Depression" which was formed in the Bay of Bengal and the Monsoon rains.[2]
In total 12 districts: - Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur (Sonepur), Bargarh, Angul, Boudh and Sambalpur got affected by the floods the most.[3]
Impact

Meanwhile, the dams in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were opened due to which the water present in the Hirakud Dam Reservoir was overflowing. Therefore, The Hirakud Dam Authority opened 40 gates to release the excess water from the reservoir.[6]
Due to the sudden release of floodwater from the dam, 100 houses in Sambalpur got submerged in the floodwater which were located near to the river course.[7]
