Assistant teachers

Paraeducators, or paraprofessionals, are another assistant found in American classrooms. Paraeducators can be assigned to offer additional support to a single student or they can support the classroom teacher by taking on a more general support role.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).</ref> At times, the paraeducator may co-teach with the classroom teacher or take on the responsibilities of the classroom teacher. New research has emerged arguing that teachers use their role to serve as agents of change. Butera et al. (2021) argue that teaching is a form of social influence. Further, they wrote that if teachers endorse the role of mentors they can promote deep study, long-term learning, and equality of treatment.

There have been attempts to get this 'agents of change' language added to several articles from a series of single purpose editors - see for example the history of the article on Social change.
