The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (abbreviated as EDII) is an autonomous body and not-for-profit institute located Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Established in 1983, the institute offers master's degree programmes in Entrepreneurship, a fellowship programme and a number of entrepreneurship training programmes.[2] The Institute's founding director was V. G. Patel.[3]

History

EDII was established in 1983 with the active support of the Government of Gujarat, IDBI Bank, IFCI Ltd, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India. The 23 acres of land occupied by the institute was pledged by the Government of Gujarat.[4] Its initial aim was to help potential and existing entrepreneurs and then gradually ventured to train trainers and faculty members. One of the major achievements of the EDII is inducing entrepreneurship in the curriculum of colleges, schools, science and technology institutions, and management schools in several states of the country and also setting up entrepreneurship development centers in 12 states across India.[5][6]

Academics

EDII offers a four-year full-time Fellow Program in Management (FPM) course, a two-year PGDM program in Business Entrepreneurship (PGDM-BE), and Development Studies (DS) with the intake of 120 seats in each discipline. PGDM-BE Program is approved by AICTE and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of India and Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. EDII is honoured with AICTE Award for Supporting Start-Ups.[2][7][5]

Phases of Entrepreneurial Development Programme

The Entrepreneurial Development Program (EDP) is a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and fostering the growth of aspiring entrepreneurs. It provides individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to start and manage their own businesses successfully. The program typically consists of several phases designed to guide participants through the entrepreneurial journey. Here are the common phases of an Entrepreneurial Development Program:

1. Identification: This phase involves identifying potential entrepreneurs and evaluating their entrepreneurial abilities and aspirations. It includes conducting surveys, interviews, and assessments to identify individuals with entrepreneurial potential.

2. Training: The training phase focuses on imparting essential entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to the identified participants. It covers topics such as business planning, financial management, marketing strategies, legal aspects, and risk management. Training methods may include lectures, workshops, case studies, and interactive sessions.

3. Idea Generation: In this phase, participants are encouraged to generate business ideas based on their interests, skills, and market opportunities. They learn how to identify market gaps, analyze customer needs, and develop innovative solutions to address them.

4. Feasibility Study: Participants conduct a feasibility study to assess the viability and potential of their business ideas. This includes market research, competitor analysis, financial projections, and risk assessment. The feasibility study helps entrepreneurs make informed decisions about pursuing their business ideas.

5. Business Planning: In this phase, participants develop a comprehensive business plan that outlines their business goals, strategies, operational processes, marketing approach, and financial projections. The business plan serves as a roadmap for the entrepreneurs and helps them secure funding and resources.

6. Implementation: The implementation phase involves executing the business plan and setting up the business operations. Entrepreneurs establish legal structures, acquire necessary resources, hire employees, and launch their products or services in the market.

7. Monitoring and Support: After the business is launched, ongoing monitoring and support are provided to the entrepreneurs. Mentors or business advisors offer guidance, feedback, and assistance in overcoming challenges. Regular monitoring helps entrepreneurs track their progress, make necessary adjustments, and ensure the sustainability and growth of their ventures.

These phases of an Entrepreneurial Development Program provide a structured framework for aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their entrepreneurial skills and successfully launch their businesses. Each phase plays a crucial role in nurturing entrepreneurship and fostering the growth of new ventures in the business ecosystem.
