He was measured by Guinness on April 22–23, 1999 (See the 2000 edition), so that's the date he assumed the title of the tallest living person. His predecessor was Ri Myong-hun, measured at 2.35 m (7 ft 8½ in) by Guinness cirka 1997 (couldn't find an exact date; I've seen his entry only in the 1998 American paperback edition). I found his birthdate here, but I'm unsure of his place of birth: when I first read of him (in late 1997 or early 1998), the article mentioned Ras Jebel (no article in the English language Wikipedia, but can be found on the French; official site can be found here, again in French) as his home town, but I don't know if he was born there. Another article in 1998 gave his weight at 166 kg (366 lb). --Anshelm '77 13:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
