Karim Zidan moved to draftspace

COI - Bloddy Elbow

Hi Timob85, I am not sure you have conflict of interest with bloody elbow site as a paid editor or affiliation as you have added bloody elbow sources to many mma related article even the info has already have independent, reliable source to support the content. If you have COI, then you have to WP:DISCLOSE it. Wikipedia is strongly discourage any editor who have COI to edit associated pages and editor can WP:Request edit for info needed in the talk page and an interest editor will help on the request - pls read WP:COI. Fails to do so will subject to be banned from editing. However, if you are not a COI editor then, my apologies for questioning you of so. Let me know if you need further assistance. I'm confused. I am an MMA journalist who works for Bloody Elbow. I understand there was a conflict of interest when I made the Bloody Elbow page and that was talked through in the discussions around that page.

Is it also a conflict of interest to use the site I work for as a reference when things happen in the world of MMA? I edited an article on Jamall Emmers, for example, I have no connection or vested interest in this person. Let me check in detail to see certain of the guidelines have change/update so I could give you a full info in my next reply as we have formal MMA editor in Wikipedia who became a MMA journalist working for a reputable MMA company who stop editing Wikipedia due to COI. Hi Timob85, To me it would be considered associate promotional edit since you use your company site to cite the info (and if so that is a serious violation). However, let me check to be sure. Hi Timob85, Thank you for your cooperation. Since there other independent, reliable source for the content added, you and your colleagues should avoid adding content and/or source from your company as it is associated with advertising for your own publication after all and that is a serious violation and will lead to indefinite blocked/banned from editing and account creation/range IP blocked. I suggest you to stop editing any article that is related to MMA articles (fighters/promotions/MMA journalists/MMA events and etc.) all together. However, you can still edit any other pages in Wikipedia. I am one of the regular MMA editors in Wikipedia, we use any independent, reliable source from all languages (different countries) including Bloody Elbow for the sourced content added/changed in the articles, as it is just the matter which source provide the info and how fast the news is indexed in search engine. By the way, no sure you are Zane Simon, if not then he must be your colleague - send out thanks to him as he used to edit MMA article in Wikipedia. Stay safe and best. Hi Cassiopeia, thank you for this information. I will cease contributing to any MMA related articles. I am very sorry for doing so earlier without understanding the rules against it. I was merely trying to improve various wikipedia pages and since our site is my prime source of information, that's the one I was using. But I won't be doing that anymore. I will research how to suggest edits on wikipedia and do that instead, especially since there are subjects within MMA that BE specializes in covering (such as MMA's connection to crime and dictatorships, financial disclosure in MMA, pushes for unionization in MMA, class action lawsuit against the UFC, etc.).
