I noticed a discrepancy; there are 16 first time nominees this year. Furthermore, this is a record, but a tied one, with the 1936 ceremony. Box office information

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone can enter in domestic box office information for this year. I know it wasn't done the past 2 years due to obvious reasons (COVID) - but I do feel it's noteworthy this year since apparently the domestic total gross at the time of nomination (January 24) is the highest in history - beating 2009's record of 1.5 billion. Error in Winners and nominees

The section on Winners and nominees states that "Additionally, paired with Yeoh's Best Actress nomination and Ke Huy Quan's Best Supporting Actor nomination, it marked the first time that Asian actors were nominated across multiple acting categories in the same year."

This information is false. The 93rd Academy Awards (2021) saw both Steven Yeun (Korean-American, born in Seoul) and Youn Yuh-jung (South Korean) nominated in different acting categories, both for their work on Minari. It may be the first time that there are Asian nominees in 3 different categories (I haven't verified that), but it is not the first time that there are Asian nominees in "multiple acting categories". John Williams' age

The article says John Williams became the oldest ever nominee in any Oscar category, at age 90. But 90 was his age when the nominations were announced, and he turned 91 between then and the day of the ceremony. The sentence currently reads as follows:

At age 90, John Williams became the oldest competitive nominee in Oscar history, and with this being his 53rd nomination, he also broke his own record as the most Oscar-nominated living person, and the second-most nominated person (behind Walt Disney).

It also feels weird to me that it doesn't list how many noms Disney got (59), so I also want to add that. I also think it would make sense to split the sentence in twain, to avoid it becoming too long. Please change to something like this instead:

The end of prestige fare?

The article saying EEAAO's wins signal the "end of the popularity and relevance of theatrically released prestige fare" feels presumptuous about future ceremonies. Can we adjust that to be more factual? Paststrange (talk) 11:38, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

That says nothing like what you claim. It just asserts that 2022 was a "down" year for "prestige cinema", not that the entire concept of "prestige cinema" is already dead and buried for all time. We've been through times like this before, when "unexpected" films won Best Picture (Midnight Cowboy, anyone?) without somehow destroying the entire established concept of what was an "Oscar film". If five years from now Best Picture has been won exclusively by sequels to and imitations of EEAAO, then maybe you'll have a point — but one year doesn't singlehandedly clinch it, and the sources you're showing aren't claiming that it does. I agree with the opinion that such a statement is premature crystal ball-gazing and at worst original research or personal opinion. There's also the fact definitions are evolving; up until a few years ago Netflix productions would have been considered made-for-TV movies and ineligible for Oscars, but now they are, notably this year with All Quiet. Next year's Oscars could be all-prestige movies. It's along the same lines as those who predicted there would be no Oscars presentation at all in 2023 because of ratings, COVID hanging on and "the slap". A24 "top five"

The article states, "A24 won a total of nine awards, more than any other studio or distributor; between Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Whale, the studio swept the "top five" awards — Best Picture and the four acting awards."

A24 did sweep the "top five," but the top five are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay (Adapted or Original), and Best Actor and Actress. Please correct. Tigerfan5150 (talk) 14:26, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

In memoriam

I added two things: one that a URL for more tributes was shown at the end of the segment (has anyone checked to see if any of the people mentioned as being omitted were included); I also noted (I know without source, but this is common sense) that some people cannot be included due to passing away too close to the broadcast, after the tribute segment would have been edited and timed out; such was the case with Sizemore and Topol at least, both of whom died only days before the show. 23skidoo (talk) 20:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
