In 2020, the Chinese concern BAIC Group decided to make extensive changes to its naming policy, abandoning the existing Senova and BJEV model lines as part of its portfolio. In their place, a new brand called Beijing was created, in which models from both lines offered so far were included in the offer, preceded by the Beijing U5 model previously bearing the name BAIC Senova D50[1].
However, before that happened in July 2020 during the official inauguration[2], the first vehicle under the Beijing brand was also developed from scratch under this name, the Beijing X7 mid-size SUV, whose official premiere took place in April 2020[3].
In April 2021, during the Shanghai Auto Show, the Beijing brand presented the modernized U5 and EU5 model family, which, in addition to the modernized appearance of the body, also gained new names in line with the trend present on the Chinese market - gaining an additional Plus member[4][5].
