here's a hint: don't learn English vocabulary and world history from Internet listicles. the word that you meant to use is 'cliche'. a trope is any use of language in a non-literal way. the word was misused by the website 'tvtropes' and has suffered more than the words 'ironic' and 'literally' in the hands of the semi-literate Internet-educated ever since. this article is pathetic.
