Meaning of Kies

What does Kies mean? Is this some Korean word?
There is a German word "Kies" meaning "gravel" in English. That is quite certainly not the meaning here though. 20.133.40.85 (talk) 14:06, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

"Kies" was originally an acronym, as "K.I.E.S." (Key Intuitive Easy System). This acronym was discontinued after KIES version 2.0. I added this information to the wiki page, but I was unable to find an actual source for this on the Internet. My source, personally, is my Samsung technical training. If anyone can find a reliable source for this information on the Internet, I'd appreciate if you could put that source in the article. I'll keep looking though. The "popularity" of this application is not necessarily measurable, for several reasons. First, "popularity" stands as a moderately biased viewpoint, and is not entirely factual without very definitive statistics. Thus why it is not mentioned in the article. Also, since Kies is really the only "official" way to back up your data (and is also the only way that most non-power users are aware of), then the program's popularity is almost irrelevant. - Zecred (talk) 16:09, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Well, there are many articles on all sorts of things, not just movies and books, but software as well, that have a "critical response" section or the equivalent. The reviews of Kies are universally negative. That's worthy of mention here, seems to me. Samuel Webster (talk) 12:19, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Kies, Kies 3, and Kies Mini

I just had to deal with learning and installing Kies for the first time (for an old Galaxy S) devices, which had me face the current 2015 reality as well as the article. The most important piece of information was that Samsung continues to make available two versions simultaneusly, since the old one supports the legacy Android OSs. Maybe it was the Samsung Israeli site's flaws, but the above fact was not mentioned on Samsung's site, only disinformation and broken links. I had to learn it through trial and error. Anyway, this is why I revised the 'version' section with appropriate citations/references. I don't know if "Kies" (as in Kies 2.6) has been discontinued or still receives updates, it would be good to add to the article if someone finds a reputable source either way.

The part about "Kies Mini" appears to bear little reveance to most of Samsung's contemporary devices, so words like "most" become wrong. It also looks like Samsung obliterated most if not all mentions of "Kies Mini" from their websites. If someone knows otherwise, by all means, revise the section. Version section out of date

The "versions" section is very dated, mentioning incorrect Kies versions, not including current Android versions, and not mentioning that Kies 2 and Kies 3 are maintained and available separately. I have tagged this section as requiring an update. -- Mikeblas (talk) 09:02, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
