Pappachan Olivilaanu (transl. Pappachan is Absconding) is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language comedy film written and directed by Sinto Sunny.[3] The film features Saiju Kurup as the title character, with Darshana S. Nair, Srinda, Vijayaraghavan, Aju Varghese, Jagadish, Johny Antony, Kottayam Nazeer and Alexander Prasanth in prominent roles.[4] The film's plot revolves around Pappachan, a truck driver living in a hilly forest village.[5]
The film was released on 4 August 2023 to mixed responses.[1]

Production
Filming
The principal photography began in Nadukani near Kothamangalam on 18 January 2023. The filming was completed near places like Kuttampuzha, Bhoothathankettu and Neriamangalam.[6][7]

The film was initially planned to be released on 28 July 2023,[10] but was later postponed.[11] The film was released on 4 August 2023.[6]

Reception
Critical reception
Swathi P. Ajith of Onmanorama wrote, "The movie's humour serves as a compelling element that holds it together, leading the audience to overlook its drawbacks."[14] Anandu Suresh of The Indian Express gave the film 0.5 stars out of 5 and stated, "Pappachan Olivilaanu is yet another Malayalam film that delves into the realm of experimentation, pushing the boundaries to see ‘how far is too far’, thus testing the patience of viewers to the very limit."[15]
