The subject is a significant figure in the development of classical music in China of close to 30 years and has a public profile in China and the UK. He has been the subject of lengthy documentaries on Chinese television and has won awards in the country, I have provided video links as references. His contribution has been recognized by third parties, as noted by his award of an OBE in the UK. I am a music researcher in the US but have lived in China, so am in a position to assess his relevance but would appreciate feedback if I haven't made that apparent according to wiki guidelines.

Hi, I want to clarify why I think this subject is not unambiguously promotional and respectfully ask for feedback on how to improve this page to avoid deletion The subject is a significant figure in the development of classical music in China of close to 30 years and has a public profile in China and the UK. He has been the subject of lengthy documentaries on Chinese television and has won awards in the country, I have provided video links as references. His contribution has been recognized by third parties, as noted by his award of an OBE in the UK. I am a music researcher in the US, have lived in China and understand Chinese, so am in a solid position to assess his relevance but would appreciate feedback if I haven't made that apparent according to wiki guidelines. I have provided references to meet the following wikipedia criteria on notability for musicians:

  • Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself (the subject has been covered in independently driven documentaries on multiple Chinese television networks - I have provided two links to video references)
  • Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award (as noted, the subject has been nominated for a Juno)
  • Has released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years, and with a roster of performers, many of whom are independently notable). (I have provided discography of at least two albums that meet this criteria - and have linked to other artists performing his compositions on those same albums that have their own wiki pages)
  • Has received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country (He has met this criteria - I can locate Chinese media coverage to support this if requested)

If this is a question of providing more or better quality references, I would appreciate some feedback. Many thanks, Nikejack (talk) 19:29, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
