Michael Morris (born 21 November 1942) is a Welsh goalkeeper who claims the world record for the most penalties saved in one football match.

Biography

Michael Morris was born in Newport, Gwent on 21st of November 1942. Between 1970 and 1975 he was goalkeeper for Gwent premier League football team, Newport YMCA. On September 29th, 1973, during a match with rival team Spencer Works, Spencer were awarded three penalties, two of which had to be re-taken. But with these five attempts, Spencer still did not score. Michael Morris, saved four of the shots, although he was penalised for having moved on two occasions and the fifth attempt went wide of the post. The game ended in a 3-0 victory to Newport YMCA.
