Lotería Loca is an American television game show based on the Mexican game of chance Lotería. The show is hosted by Jaime Camil, with Sheila E. serving as co-host and band leader.[1][2] The show premiered on October 2, 2023, on CBS.

Each episode features two contestants attempting to match symbols found on their Lotería tablero. The first player to complete two lines on their tablero advances to the final round in an attempt to win $1,000,000.

Gameplay

Mano a Mano

Each contestant is given their own Lotería tablero consisting of nine cards, arranged 3-by-3. Starting with the winner of a backstage coin toss, contestants alternate selecting one of 15 numbered squares from a game board. Each number reveals a Lotería card with a corresponding dollar value, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 in $500 increments. If the selected card matches one on the contestant’s tablero, they bank the money, and that card is marked off on the contestant’s tablero. However, if the card does not match, the opposing contestant banks the money instead, and that card is marked off on the opponent's tablero. If the selected card is found on both contestants' tableros, then it is marked off on both, but the money is only awarded to the contestant who originally made the selection.

Hidden behind several squares are “Loca Challenges,” minigames ranging from physical stunts to musical performances, which can add up to $10,000 to the contestant's bank. However, any money earned from a Loca Challenge can only be added to the contestant's bank if the card behind the Loca Challenge matches one on their tablero; otherwise, the opposing contestant steals the money.

The first contestant to mark off three cards in a row, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, earns a “Lotería,” and banks an additional $10,000. The first contestant to earn two “Loterías” wins the game, and takes their winnings to the bonus round.

Million Dollar Lotería

The champion is given a new tablero, this time consisting of 16 cards arranged 4-by-4. They face a game board of 20 numbered squares, and are given four lives.

As in the main game, the champion selects one square at a time. Behind 16 of the squares are Lotería cards, all of which can be found on the contestant’s tablero. The dollar values hidden behind the cards now range from $2,000 to $10,000. There is at least one Loca Challenge on the board. In this round, the maximum value of Loca Challenges increases to $20,000.

However, hidden behind four of the squares are Skull cards. If the champion picks a Skull card, they lose one of their four lives, and their bank is reduced by half. Should the champion uncover all four Skulls, the game is terminated and the contestant forfeits their entire bank.

If the champion earns a Lotería by marking off four cards in a row, they bank an additional $25,000. After earning a lotería, the champion can either stop and end the game with their winnings or continue to play. If the champion chooses to continue the game, they must keep uncovering squares until they either earn another Lotería or they lose all of their lives. If the champion marks off all 16 of their cards before losing all four lives, their bank is augmented to $1,000,000.

Production

On May 4, 2023, it was announced that CBS had ordered the series.[3][4] On August 3, 2023, it was announced that the series would premiere on October 2, 2023.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
