Elliot Moshoke (born 5 May 1980) is a Botswana entrepreneur, and the founder and group chief executive officer (CEO) of Acute Global Limited.[1] He launched the group of companies in 2017, a separate spinoff of their family company Moshoke Ranch founded 1979.[2]

Early life

Moshoke was born and raised in Mahalapye where he also spent his childhood.[3] He the first born of five children of prominent businesswoman, Patricia Moshoke and Edward Moshoke.

Background and Education

Moshoke is a Botswana national. He holds a Bachelor of Finance degree from University of Botswana.[4][5] He has also obtained a Law degree (LLB) from University of South Africa.[6]

Career

Acute Global Limited

In 2017, he founded Acute Global, his family-owned group investment holding company.[7] The group of companies is a 100% Botswana-owned investment holding company with primary interests in expanding access to affordable full-suite financial services and food security through localised retail.[8]

Evolving from a family-owned business in the 1970s, Acute’s drive for excellence is supported by a strong and experienced leadership team & Fianacial background.[9] Acute Global’s trajectory has positioned the company amongst the fastest growing in Botswana.[10]

Western Insurnace Group

Following PSG Group exit from Botswana, Elliot Moshoke’s Acute Group became the suitor and acquired both the Western Life Insurance Botswana (Proprietary) Limited which was renamed to WestLife Insurance Botswana and Western Insurance, now WestSure Insurance Botswana which started operating in Botswana in June 2018 and licensed insurers registered with the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (“NBFIRA”).[11][12][13] In 2021, the Company shareholding changed, with Acute Global Limited having purchased 100% shareholding through Boago Emerging Markets, part of the Acute Global Limited group of companies.[14]  Western Life Insurance Botswana is a member of the Association of Life Underwriters Botswana.[15] In April 2021, Boikanyo Kgosidintsi appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer to run the business, immediate focus being operational and financial resilience.[16]

Payless

On April 14, 2021, Moshoke led an audacious acquisition of the oldest supermarket chain in Botswana, a move that saw the first retail chain get in the hands of an indigenous Motswana.[17][18] Payless Supermarket, founded in Botswana in 1990, making it the first FMCG chain store in Botswana. The supermarket was going through a liquidation process and Moshoke, through a Ellis Retail Group, acquired Payless, despite the retail market dominated and controlled by the Asian community with access to funding that Moshoke’s group can only dream off.[19]  To this day Payless struggles to raise its head above waters as the barriers to entry in this sector are insurmountable.[20][21]

Personal life

Moshoke lives in Gaborone, Botswana. He has 10 children.[21] His mother, Patricia Moshoke passed away on May 18, 2023.
