Geoffrey Woo is an American entrepreneur and investor noted for founding HVMN, Archive, and Anti Fund, a venture capital firm he co-founded with Jake Paul.[1][2][3]

Education and early life

Woo was born in and grew up in Los Angeles[4] and attended Stanford University, where he graduated with honors and distinction, with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He specialized in Information Theory and Distributed Systems.[1][5] The minor planet 21714 Geoffreywoo is named after Woo for being a finalist in the 2006 Intel ISEF.

Career

Anti Fund

Woo partnered with YouTuber and professional boxer, Jake Paul to found Anti Fund Investment Fund, an early stage venture capital firm. They announced their collaboration through social media platforms, highlighting their intention to foster the growth of businesses influential in internet culture and capable of producing viral content. [6]

The fund is based in Miami and invests in startups that facilitate the creator economy and e-commerce enablement. The fund allocates investments ranging from one hundred thousand dollars to $1 million in two to ten enterprises each quarter. Prospective investors can participate through a quarterly subscription on the AngelList platform. [3] In August 2022, Anti Fund invested in Anduril Industries, an American defense company specializing in autonomous systems.[7]

H.V.M.N. (Health Via Modern Nutrition)

Woo is co-founder and chairman of HVMN, a company specializing in ketone drinks, biohacking, and nootropics. In early 2017, he initiated a seven-day fasting program at his company WeFast, which 100 members participated in. During the fasting period, some participants monitored their blood glucose levels in real-time and tracked the presence of ketones, markers indicating the body is in a state of ketosis, utilizing fat for energy. Woo asserts that increased ketone levels in the body can enhance mental clarity, a perspective attributed to their role as a "super-fuel" for the brain. [8]

To analyze the effect of fasting on productivity, participants used Rescue Time software along with physiological measurements such as ketone and blood sugar levels. Woo observes that hunger sensations tend to diminish around the second or third day of fasting due to increasing ketone levels, which provide an alternate energy source for the body and brain.

Woo maintains a personal fasting routine, engaging in a 36-hour fast weekly and a three-day fast quarterly, which he believes helps him understand his hunger patterns more clearly. He is also known to focus on longevity and cognitive performance in his personal health approach. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 165 pounds before the fasting experiment, he lost 12 pounds over the week of fasting.[1]

Archive

Geoffrey Woo is a co-founder and chairman of Archive, a technology company that facilitates community engagement for brands in the e-commerce sector. Under Woo's leadership, Archive has developed tools to assist merchants in harnessing online communities and utilizing the data for growth.[2]

In November, Archive announced a $4 million seed funding round led by Stripe. The company launched products integrating databases and distribution channels.

By the end of January, Archive expanded its customer base from under 50 to over 500. During its launch week, the app was the top trending on Shopify. Later, the company secured an additional $8 million in funding through a seed extension round co-led by Tiger Global and Human Capital. This funding round elevated the company's post-money valuation to $100 million, bringing the total funding to $12 million since its inception in March 2021. According to Woo, the newly acquired capital will be invested in expanding the technical team, focusing on roles in engineering and design. Additionally, the company plans to venture into content platforms, conferences, and newsletters, aiming to pioneer approaches in community marketing. Woo emphasizes the necessity of adapting marketing strategies to changing dynamics, including the influence of Web3 and cryptocurrency on audiences.[2]

Publications and patents

Woo has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles focusing mainly on ketones' potential applications and benefits in human physiology and recovery. He co-authored five US patents for consumer grouping systems and mobile device location determination. [2]

Personal interests

Woo takes a keen interest in human performance and biohacking, personally undertaking various challenges and dietary practices to explore the boundaries of physical and mental wellness. His personal experiences include participating in a 7-day water-only fast, consecutive daily fitness challenges, and experimenting with different diets, including the carnivore and ketogenic diets.[1]
