Jane Harris was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Annie Jones. She first appeared in 1986 until the character's departure in 1989. In 2005, Jane made a cameo in Annalise Hartman's Documentary about Ramsay Street.
About Jane
Jane was born in Erinsborough, to Peter and Amanda Harris, in 1969. Jane's parents were constantly busy and never really had time for her, but she could always count on her grandmother, Nell Mangel who she went to live with at 16, when her parents moved to Hong Kong.
Jane was teased at school for being somewhat clever, and was given the nickname "Plain Jane Super-brain". This ended after her neighbours, Helen Daniels and Daphne Clarke gave her a makeover.
Jane gradually became friends with Charlene Mitchell, her boyfriend Scott Robinson and Scott's sister Lucy. Jane later began dating Mike Young who lived several doors up.
Jane's relationship with Mike gradually came to an end after he cheated on her.
Sometime later, Amanda came back to Erinsborough, under the ruse of getting to know her daughter when in reality she was hiding from being targeted for insurance fraud. Jane and Nell subsequently sent her packing.
Jane's next love interest was Mark Granger who proposed to her at Christmas 1988. This didn't last as Mark's mother took an instant dislike towards Jane.
In 1989 Jane fell in love with Des Clarke, Daphne's widower and they became engaged. This engagement came to an end when Nell suffered a heart attack and Jane went to England to nurse her back to health. Des waited for his bride-to-be, but a few months later, Jane phoned and told Des that she couldn't go through with the wedding and settled there. Des subsequently moved to Perth.
