Plot

Reggie Allen had contacts in all the right places to make sure their purchase went according to plan. He hired a few people to pay off the art dealer and get the paperwork in order. With the help of his shady friends, Reggie was able to purchase the kimono for a fraction of what it was worth. But he didn't stop there. He used the money he made from this scam to launder money to finance other art deals in the New York area. The trio of friends was very successful in a short amount of time, due to the money laundering schemes created by Reggie. However, they had no idea that his schemes had dire consequences for them all. When the authorities got wind of the money laundering, they cracked down hard on all three of the friends. Reggie was arrested and went to prison, where he served several years until he was eventually released. His friends weren't so lucky, and Patrice and Gordon both spent several years in jail, as well. Reggie Allen’s story is a cautionary tale of the dangers of money laundering and its effects on those who become involved in it. Though his art dealing business was successful, in the end it was not worth the price he and his friends paid.

Little did they know that the Kimono was involved in a money-laundering scheme controlled by the underworld. Soon, they started to receive threats from an assassin hired by the art dealer. They realized that they had become a target of a powerful syndicate and were in deep trouble. Little did Reggie know Patrice Jackson, a brilliant and highly influential art curator from the west coast who had recently become involved with the world of avant-garde art, had been tracking his activities. When Reggie found out, he was determined to get Patrice out of his life.

Little did Reggie and Patrice know that their new found obsession with the Kimono had led them into a web of international deception and corruption. The Kimono, which was made of exquisite silk and seemed to be out of the ordinary, was actually being used by a powerful art dealer to conduct a money-laundering scheme. With the help of trusted associates, he had been able to keep the origins of the money discreet and also to move it to different destinations without detection. Reggie and Patrice soon became aware that they were being targeted by a powerful international underworld syndicate that was using the Kimono as one of its resources to make money and fund its criminal activities. Even though they wanted to stay out of the scheme, the threat of an assassin sent by the art dealer had already made them targets of the syndicate. Reggie, in an effort to protect Patrice, confronted the art dealer to try to convince him to terminate the scheme. When it became evident that the art dealer was not going to stop, Patrice and Reggie knew they were in a dangerous situation and had to find a way out.

Not knowing who Patrice was the hitman had snatched the precious Kimono from the gallery and fled. Patrice's younger sister Grace had been witness to the entire incident. She immediately ran to Reggie's gallery to report the crime. Reggie was greatly concerned, Patrice was a young and talented curator whose life was now in danger. He had no means to stop the underworld but was determined to protect Patrice from any harm. In a desperate bid to save Patrice, Reggie contacted several influential members of the art community who could assist him in tracking Gordon. Through his connections, Reggie was able to locate and capture Gordon, who had been hired to carry out a wide-reaching money-laundering operation. Unfortunately, the underworld still managed to escape and ran away with the Kimono and Patrice was yet to be found.

Reggie was in deep thought, contemplating what would happen as the result of his actions. Would the underworld come back with a vengeance? He wasn't sure. His worries began to subside when Patrice showed up. She thanked him for his courage and mentioned that the police were currently on the case. Desperate, Reggie and Gordon jointly decided that they had to look for help from the police. Unfortunately, they were too late as the hitman had already sent an assassin after them. But the trio roomed with luck and managed to beat off the assassin and make a run for it.

Grace had long suspected that the art dealer was in cahoots with the Japanese crime syndicate, funneling money illegally through the purchase and sale of kimonos with counterfeit stamps and signatures. But only when Reggie used his connections to infiltrate the syndicate and discover the truth, were the suspicions confirmed. From there, the two worked together to expose the illegal activities. Evidence was gathered that allowed for the arrest of the art dealer and also the hitman, an assassin hired by the syndicate, who had put a bounty on Patrice's head. Undercover and in danger, Reggie was able to stay one step ahead of the law and bring down the entire syndicate, ensuring the safety of Patrice and also the integrity of the art world. With the help of Grace and Reggie's daring and clever plan, they were able to outsmart the criminals and put an end to their illegitimate activities. In the end, not only were they cleared of all suspicion, but Reggie was heralded as a hero and the conspirators were brought to justice.[2]

Cast

Production

The film was announced in April 2022, with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson starring, Jonathan Jacobson writing the screenplay, and Nicol Paone set to direct.[3] In April 2022, it was announced that Joe Manganiello was cast. In May 2022, Dree Hemingway was revealed to have joined the cast.[4] That same month, reality television star Leah McSweeney was revealed to be making her feature film debut in the project,[5] and shortly afterwards Maya Hawke was announced as working with her mother, Thurman, on a project for the first time.[6] In June 2022, WWE wrestler Liv Morgan was announced to have joined the cast.[7]

Principal photography began in New York and New Jersey in early 2022.[8] Filming was reported in Hoboken at Field Colony, a coworking space within an art gallery that was used as the primary shooting location. The furniture was removed and flat floor-to-ceiling flat panels were installed to recreate a 'white box' art gallery.[9][10] Novado Gallery in Jersey City[11] was used as a secondary art gallery for the film. Filming was scheduled to finish in June 2022, but issues with weather caused a delay and a re-location to Lavallette, New Jersey in October 2022.[12]

Release

In July 2023, Shout! Studios acquired the North American rights to The Kill Room.[13] It was released in the United States on September 28, 2023.[14]
