The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China (中华人民共和国文化和旅游部) is a constitute department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China in charge of culture and tourism.
The ministry was established on 19 March 2018 based on the Ministry of Culture and the China National Tourism Administration.[2]
History
On March 17, 2018, the first session of the 13th National People's Congress adopted the "Decision of the First Session of the 13th National People's Congress on the Institutional Reform Plan of the State Council" and approved the "Organizational Reform Plan of the State Council." The plan stipulates: "Establish the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Integrate the responsibilities of the Ministry of Culture and the National Tourism Administration, and establish the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a component department of the State Council. The Ministry of Culture and the National Tourism Administration will no longer be retained."[3][4][5] Luo Shugang was elected as the first Minister of Culture and Tourism.[6]
Executive actions
In September 2020, China News Service reported that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism stated that it will focus on strengthening the content censorship and on-site supervision of talk shows, Xiangsheng, Pioneer drama, experimental drama and other language shows.[7]
