Eagle Plains is one of the only populated communities along the Dempster Highway south of the Arctic Circle. The outpost found here is home to 8 people and offers services and hospitalities for travelers. People driving the highway often engage with other visitors at Eagle Plains to exchange information about the road conditions for their trips.

The stopover has a 32-room hotel, campsites, shops and gas for vehicles passing through. They also have seasonal airstrips and emergency services for nearby unorganized communities. 37km farther along the Dempster Highway is the sign marking the Arctic Circle.

History
History
The first hotel and service station was built in 1978 by Stan McNevin, but the community would stay unknown until early 2018, when Fulda Tires (the German division of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company) would run an annual set of challenges to test their tires along the Dempster Highway. A blizzard ran through the day they came, and the participants were forced to stay at the hotel for the night.

Afterwards, the hotel saw an increase in visitors travelling towards the new Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway and since began a small-scale advertising campaign for new workers.

Eagle Plains sits roughly midway between Dawson City and Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. The landscape predominantly features mosses, lichens, and small conifers fostered by the Taigal weather.
The region is generally high in elevation and sits on top of permafrost, so the only plantlife found in the plains are mosses, lichens, and small shrubs.

Being only 21km south of the arctic circle, the stopover experiences ≈ 10 minutes of civil twilight during the Summer Solstice.
