He also received varsity letters in football, golf, and basketball. While playing in high school, he also played for American Legion Baseball's Post 49's Tupelo 49ers from 2002–2005.[2]

Dozier attended the University of Southern Mississippi and played college baseball for the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles from 2006 through 2009. He was named a Freshman All-American and selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.[2] In 224 career games at Southern Miss, he hit .355 with 55 doubles, seven triples, 16 home runs, and 152 runs batted in. He was a member of the Southern Miss team that went to the College World Series in 2009.[3] He played for the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League in 2006.[4]
Professional career
The Minnesota Twins selected Dozier in the eighth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. He was named Twins Minor League Player of the Year in 2011. [5]
2012 season
Dozier made his Major League debut on May 7, 2012. He went 1-for-4 with a run scored. [6] His first big league home came against Ricky Romero on May 13th. [7] Dozier hit .234 with six home runs and 33 RBI during his rookie season, primarily playing shortstop. [8]
2013 season

2014 season
Dozier had 33 doubles, 23 home runs, and 21 stolen bases in 2014. This made him the sixth player in Twins history to have at least 20 doubles, home runs, and steals in a single season. He was the first to do it since Torii Hunter in 2004. [10] His 112 runs scored during the 2014 season were the most by a Twins player since Chuck Knoblauch scored 117 in 1997.
American League captain José Bautista selected Dozier to participate in the 2014 Home Run Derby at Target Field. [11]
2015 season
Dozier hit two walk-off home runs in July 2015. The first came against Tommy Hunter on July 6th. [12] The second came against Joakim Soria on July 10th. [13] He also homered against Mark Melancon in the 2015 All-Star Game. [14]
Dozier led all second baseman with 71 extra base hits in 2015. He finished with 12 more than Jose Altuve and Jason Kipnis, who had 59 extra base hits each. [15]
2016 season
Dozier had a career year in 2016. He became the first second baseman in American League history to ever hit 40 home runs in a season. It has since been accomplished by Marcus Semien in 2021. [16] Dozier led all second baseman with 82 extra base hits. [17] As of 2023, that’s tied for the tenth most extra base hits by a second baseman in a single season. [18]
2017 season
Dozier hit .271 with 34 home runs and 92 RBI during the 2017 season. [19] He also became the first Twins second baseman to win a Gold Glove since Chuck Knoblauch in 1997. [20]
The Twins reached the postseason for the first time since 2010. Dozier hit a lead-off home run against Luis Severino in the 2017 AL Wild Card Game, but Minnesota was defeated by the New York Yankees. [21]
2018 season
Dozier began 2018 with a 16-game hitting streak, which set a Twins record to open a season. [22] He hit the first walk-off grand slam in Target Field history on July 15th. It was also the first time in Major League history with extra inning, walk-off grand slams on consecutive days. Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts had done so the day before. [23]
Los Angeles Dodgers
Dozier was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 31, 2018. Minnesota received second baseman Logan Forsythe, minor league pitcher Devin Smeltzer, and minor league outfielder Luke Raley in return. [24]
He homered in each of his first two games with the Dodgers, but ultimately struggled down the stretch. [25] Dozier hit just .182 with five home runs in 47 games with the Dodgers. [26] He started just three of a possible 16 playoff games for the Dodgers that fall. [27] Los Angeles was defeated by the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. [28]

Washington defeated the Houston Astros in the 2019 World Series, winning their first championship in franchise history. [32] Dozier was 0-for-6 with a walk during the 2019 postseason, appearing in one World Series game. [33]
New York Mets
The San Diego Padres signed Dozier to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training on February 23, 2020. [34] He was released before Opening Day of the COVID shortened season on July 11, 2020. [35]

He had the most home runs and third most extra base hits among second baseman during his career timeframe of 2012-20. [40] [41] Dozier also retired as the all-time home runs leader at Target Field. He is still the leader as of 2023. Max Kepler is two home runs shy of his record. [42]
Personal life
Dozier is married to Renee Dozier.[43] They reside in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.[44]

That's what I stand for...".[45] In November 2013, Dozier went with the mission group Amigos for Christ to Nicaragua for a week. While on the trip, Dozier helped dig a new clean water system for a small community and helped deliver a cow and a pig to the community for food.[46]
