Notes
- This was the only pay-per-view in WWE history where the WCW World Heavyweight Championship was defended in the main event. Likewise, this match is (to date) the only WWE-sanctioned world title match on SummerSlam to feature 2 African-American (or partially in The Rock's case) wrestlers.
- This is the first and only SummerSlam to feature both WWF Championship and WCW Championship matches.
- At WWF New York, Perry Saturn said that he needed help and asked all the fans there to find the love of his life, "Moppy". Saturn was playing his current gimmick of a mentally insane person who thought a mop could talk to him and it was his best friend.
- The Undertaker was competing in his tenth SummerSlam event.
