Namayan /ˈnɑːmaɪən/, is a barangay in the city of Mandaluyong, Philippines. It is located in the western part of the city near the border with Santa Ana, Manila and Kasilawan and Carmona, Makati, separated from them by the Pasig River. The barangay covers an area of 30.60 hectares (75.6 acres) and is bordered by the barangays of Mabini–J.P. Rizal and Old Zañiga on the north, and Vergara on the east.[1] According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 7,670 people.[2]
Namayan was the center of a pre-Hispanic kingdom that covered much of the modern city of Manila and surrounding cities in southern and eastern Metro Manila.
Education
Barangay Namayan has only one public school under DepEd, Doña Basilisa Yangco Elementary School (DBYES) who schools around 450 children. The school is small, however it has a rich and vibrant history when it was founded in 1976. Namayan however, offers it's own Daycare Nursery service for children before they usually proceed to the DBYES Kindergarten, then the Elementary School's main grades.
Landmarks
The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Sub-Parish Church, is a church in Namayan. It is to the left of Doña Basilisa Yangco Elementary School, and faces the Namayan Park. The Church is a sub-parish church of the San Felipe Neri Church.
The Namayan Park is where the Hardin ni Sotera, and the Namayan Arena is. It is also where the offices of the Barangay Captain and their council, as well as the Sangguniang Kabataan of Namayan reside in. The Park is very famous within the locals of Namayan, and many people enjoy it's amazing natural sense.
