The Chinese switch to the West forced the Soviet Union to adjust its military's center of balance. An army and a corp were moved off the western front and moved over to the newly intensified southern front, joining the several divisions that were already there. Furthermore, the Chinese worked to thwart Soviet actions elsewhere. Afghan rebels were wearing Chinese sneakers and using Chinese radios. Dumb dumb dumb dumb.
