Category:American slave owners
No mention of slave-owning. I feel that this category should be restricted to people whose slave-owning history was notable in itself. Valetude (talk) 04:17, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
more work needed
I recently noticed this talk page note, as well as the rather (to me) glaring errors in the article. However, the only nearby library with the Commonwealth Catholics book still restricts access to 30 minutes/day, and I have other obligations so cannot clean up all the Brent articles. Many Brents in Virginia owned slaves, but perhaps not this man by the time of his death. Several years ago, I looked at this man's will, which I believe indicated he owned no slaves, which might be why he was "forgotten." Emancipation in that era was very difficult, and I believe he had at least one free black man in his household. In addition to the Woodstock error I corrected, this man only had one son, Robert Young Brent, who lived near what is now Forest Glen, Maryland, just outside the northwest limits of the federal city. Probably, Richard Brent Jr. was the son of Richard Brent, if not a brother then close relative.Jweaver28 (talk) 14:28, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
