Copy edit, September 2013

I will add bullets here as I go. Please feel free to thread replies directly under each bullet.

  • The known-for section of the infobox is too verbose. This stuff can go in the article. I recommend cutting it down to concise bullet points (not full sentences). --Stfg (talk) 11:03, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The lead needs rewriting to summarize the article. At present, it says nothing about Matthew except when and where he was born. All the rest is about the family fortune. --Stfg (talk) 11:03, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Known for Section

I think stating that this person is 'known for' inventing retractable landing gear is really overstating things. It's clear that they filed a patent for an aircraft with a form of retractable landing gear, and earlier than many, but it is not the first retractable landing gear in an aircraft concept. Also, the form and style of this retractable landing gear is not that used today, so within the landing gear industry, this person is not known, despite the cleverness of their design. I propose to remove it from the 'known for' area 156.28.6.9 (talk) 14:50, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
