Revision as of 05:30, 2 April 2007
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.
Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.
Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete. Things like capitalization and spelling mistakes would be appropriate here. If there is any prior discussion as to the name of the article please link to it. If there is any possibility that the proposed page move could be opposed by anyone, do not list it in this section. If the move location appears as a red link you should be able to move the article using the move button of the top of the article's page (unless your account is less than 4 days old) and don't need to use this page.
Please list new requests at the bottom and use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}}; do not copy, paste, and edit previous entries. No dated sections are necessary, and no templates on the article's talk page are necessary. Do not sign yourself — the template will do it for you.
If your request was not fulfilled, and was removed from this section, please relist it in the #Other proposals section below.
- GFS Marketplace 400 → 3M Performance 400 — In a complex juggling of naming rights, the first race of the year at this track, formerly known as the 3M Performance 400, was renamed the Citizens Bank 400. But, the second race of the year, previously the GFS Marketplace 400, was renamed the 3M Performance 400. To keep the race histories straight, the page should be moved as noted, but since there used to be a previous 3M Performance 400, I can't do it. Thanks. —Airline 01:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Mew Choo Wong → Wong Mew Choo — Chinese standard name, surname in front and give name behind —Aleenf1 02:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Victoria "Nana" Moon → Nana Moon - Nana was her most common name in the show, Victoria was only used very occasionally. -Trampikey(talk)(contribs) 18:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Traynor amplifiers → Traynor Amplifiers — Capitalize a proper noun, currently a redirect with multiple page history, not possible for non-sysops. Some minor discussion here. —--YbborTSurvey! 23:35, 1 April 2007 (UTC) --YbborTSurvey! 23:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maiking Break-Through Gurren-Lagann → Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann — The current name was used when there wasn't much information available about the show. Now that it has premiered, the romanization of the Japanese pronunciation seems more appropriate than a vague English translation that isn't official. The desired page is currently a redirect. The move was proposed and discussed on the article's talk page. —Leebo T/C 01:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- John Ware (cowboy) → John Ware — No other John Ware on Wikipedia. —Kevlar67 04:08, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Incomplete and contested proposals
If a requested move is incomplete (not all steps of the procedure are followed), or if anyone objects to an "uncontroversial" proposal, it should be listed here until the proposer or anyone else completes it. After the completion, plese move the entry to the top of "other proposals" section. Please place newly moved requests to the top of this list, and either sign (~~~~) or just put the timestamp (~~~~~) at the end. Proposals that remain here longer than 5 days are subject to removal.
- Sprinkler head → Fire sprinkler - (Discuss) — The new name is industry accepted practice. I tried to do the Move myself, but it did not work, as I believe there are conflicts with the name of the article Fire sprinkler system Fireproeng 23:12, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest that Fire sprinkler should become a dab page. Moved from uncontroversial. DES (talk) 19:24, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Whatever It Takes (film) → Whatever It Takes —(Discuss)— no need to disambiguate, just need admin —Fitch 18:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- I oppose this move, disambiguation is desireable here. Moved from uncontroversial. See the talk page. DES (talk) 18:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Mobile Suit Gundam SEED → Mobile Suit Gundam Seed — Compliance with WP:MOSCAPS —Neier 05:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC) Neier 05:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose Straight from WP:MOSCAP -- "Write acronyms in all capitals"; "SEED" stands for " Superior Evolutionary Element Destined-Factor". —Tydus Arandor 08:38, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Moved from uncontroversial. --Stemonitis 09:04, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- No place in the article is SEED mentioned as an abbreviation. Neier 11:45, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Chonji Lake → Chonji — Someone just moved without discussion, apparently unaware of the earlier discussion and consensus on talk page —BAmonster 06:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose This is not uncontroversial. It was originally titled Tianchi and moved without consensus. We should move it back to the most common name which is Tianchi. LionheartX 06:58, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Moved from uncontroversial. --Stemonitis 09:04, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Johnsonville Train Line → Johnsonville Branch — Article was formerly at Johnsonville Branch and was errantly moved to Johnsonville Train Line. "[Terminus] Branch" is the standard for New Zealand Railway branch line articles, as outlined in the NZR Manual of Style and is used by all other articles on New Zealand branch lines. If a branch line is currently referred to by a different name such as Johnsonville Train Line, convention is to note this in the intro. —Axver 06:44, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Given that the recent moves were reasonable and made in good faith, and that the noted manual of style is still in user-space, I think the full procedure is probably necessary. There are arguments to made on both sides (or even all three). --Stemonitis 09:52, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Tawfiq Al Hakim → Tawfiq al-Hakim — Name used by author and all major sources. Just to name some: Britannica, Al-Bab, Encyclopaedia of the Orient, Foreign Affairs —Anas talk? 21:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Not uncontroversial: was recently moved somewhere else. --Stemonitis 11:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Al Hakeem or al-Hakeem are absolutely wrong. No offense, but the user who had moved the article doesn't have a clue. Google brings less than 800 results for Al Hakeem (most of them from Wikipedia and its mirrors) and actually suggests a correction of Hakim. :-) Meanwhile, al-Hakim yields close to 18000 results, and is used by the writer himself and all major sources. Yes, it gets a little messy in the darker, unmonitored side of Wikipedia. - Anas talk? 12:53, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- For the following five, discussions are carrying on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City Public Transportation#New Proposal. While that's still happening, I think it's safe to say that these are not uncontroversial. --Stemonitis 15:41, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Jamaica–179th Street (IND Queens Boulevard Line) → 179th Street (IND Queens Boulevard Line) - Move to the common name, used on signs, blocked by a double redirect fix. --NE2 22:33, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Eastchester–Dyre Avenue (IRT Dyre Avenue Line) → Dyre Avenue (IRT Dyre Avenue Line) - Move to the common name on signs blocked by a redirect with history. --NE2 09:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Bedford Park Boulevard–Lehman College (IRT Jerome Avenue Line) → Bedford Park Boulevard (IRT Jerome Avenue Line) - Same reason. --NE2 09:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- 138th Street–Grand Concourse (IRT Jerome Avenue Line) → 138th Street (IRT Jerome Avenue Line) - Same reason. --NE2 10:16, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Wakefield–241st Street (IRT White Plains Road Line) → 241st Street (IRT White Plains Road Line) - Same reason. --NE2 10:43, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Fascist architecture → Rationalism architecture —(Discuss) - Rationalism architecture is the correct architectural term. Thx! --Escapista 15:50, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- I would suggest either rationalist architecture or rationalism (architecture). --Stemonitis 16:00, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Moved from dated section - incomplete. --Stemonitis 08:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Route 15 (SEPTA) → SEPTA Route 15 —(Discuss)— Title's format should be consistent with SEPTA Route 44, SEPTA Route 104, etc. —Crashintome4196 18:58, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Moves from dated section - incomplete proposal. Also, the usual format seems to be R3 (SEPTA), R5 (SEPTA), R8 (SEPTA), etc. --Stemonitis 08:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- The "R# (Septa)" format is used for SEPTA's regional rail lines, as this is how they are universially known and shown on all SEPTA maps and timetables. The "SEPTA Route ##" format is used for all other SEPTA routes, mostly bus lines. DES (talk) 19:12, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Other proposals
All of the proposals listed below need to have a discussion set up on talk page of the article to be moved. Please use the template {{subst:WP:RM|Old Page Name|Requested name|Reason for move}} and, if necessary, create a new dated section.
Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do NOT attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- The Chosun Ilbo → Chosun Ilbo —(Discuss)— removal of the definite article —70.232.175.153 05:30, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Satchitananda → Satchidananda -The correct spellings are SatchiDananda. The sanskrit root words are sat+chit+ananda, but according to the rules of alphabetic merger ("sandhi") the chit+ananda becomes chidananda Bunty.Gill 05:29, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion → Wikipedia:Articles for discussion —(Discuss)— — Cat chi? 22:57, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Road safety camera → Vehicle detection camera —(Discuss)— Concerns have been expressed that 'Road safety camera' fails NPOV. The initial suggestion was 'Road rule enforcement camera' but that, whilst NPOV, is illogical since the cameras detect but do not enforce (that is the authorities' job) and there is no such legal provision as a road rule (there are laws and regulations but not rules). Consequently, I am proposing the new title that seems both NPOV and accurate. I am neutral since I am quite happy with the existing title since though, arguably, it is not NPOV, it is the official name in several jurisdictions, and seems fine to me. I invite comments .... —BlueValour 22:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Jim Kimsey → James Kimsey —(Discuss)— James is his real name even though he is called Jim —rxnd ( t | € | c ) 20:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- List of firsts → List of first people —(Discuss)— The current title is too vague. It could be a list about natural, animals, or ficitonal firsts. My suggested title is only a little better, so I would encourage other suggestions. —Cigarette 19:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Loki (comics) → Loki (Marvel Comics) —(Discuss)— Articles about legends or deities in modern fiction should properly disambiguate themselves in the article title. —Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 08:22, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sioux Uprising → Dakota War of 1862 —(Discuss)— Current title is misleading--most academic institutes (including the Minnesota Historical Society[1]) now refer to it as something other than the Sioux Uprising, preferring a more neutral title. Good suggestions/reasons-why to move the page have been discussed for years now, and generally agreed upon. —oncamera(t) 06:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Puerto Inírida → Inirida —(Discuss)— The name of the city has officially been changed to Inirida, dropping the Puerto (Port) and the accent above the first i, the old name is still popularly used, but it is not official anymore and to stay clear and objective it should be changed to the new name, the page Inirida, however is a redirect page that directs to a disamibguation page —mijotoba 04:39, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- List of American wars → List of wars involving the United States —(Discuss)— The old name is not very clear; what exactly does "list of American wars" mean? List of wars fought on "American" soil, list of wars involving the American people, list of wars involving people from the Americas? The new name is much more precise. —-- Cielomobile talk / contribs 01:06, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Talk:Jin-Soo Kwon (Discuss) — Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean)#Name order, standard order for Korean given names is family name first, "unless the subject is known to prefer otherwise." Although (as noted by Jtrost on the Jin-Soo Kwon talk page), the show's official ABC Web site gives the names as Jin-Soo Kwon and Sun Kwon, that isn't quite the same as "the subject preferring otherwise." If you asked the characters themselves, I'm pretty sure they would give their names as Kwon Jin-Soo and Kwon Sun-Hwa. Also, as DocNox points out, "all the character article titles aren't following exactly the way they're listed on ABC." I think the article titles should follow standard Korean name order, as recommended by Wikipedia naming conventions. —Dodiad 23:11, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Wine Country → Wine country (California) —(Discuss)— The current article title is very POV driven in that it makes the assumption that the only "wine country" in the world is this one particular area in California. There is also no reliable sources in existence to show universal (much less primarily) usage for this specific region to cover a worldwide perspective of what "Wine country" is. In truth, the phrase is used in the wine world in much the same way that Downtown is used in references to cities. Every wine region has "wine country" and after the move, it is requested that Wine Country serve as a redirect to List of wine producing regions —AgneCheese/Wine 18:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC) AgneCheese/Wine 18:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- List of settlements in the Chalcidice prefecture → List of settlements in the Chalkidiki prefecture —(Discuss)— Move to accepted name as per Talk:Chalkidiki#Proposed move —Kimontalk 13:11, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Green Party of Kosova → Green Party of Kosovo —(Discuss)— Move from the Albanian form "Kosova" to the one commonly used in English (see examples of usage), per WP:UE and for consistency with the article on Kosovo and those on other political parties of Kosovo. — Ev 06:58, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Projective set → Projective hierarchy —(Discuss)— There's no sense in having two articles, and the "hierarchy" title better describes the content. --Trovatore 06:52, 31 March 2007 (UTC) —Trovatore 06:52, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- State university (disambiguation) → State university —(Discuss)— Correcting US-centricity —Andrewa 01:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Men, Women & Children → Men Women & Children —(Discuss)— bands name has no commas —GURT 22:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- CFL (disambiguation) → CFL —(Discuss)— to prevent surprises. CFL did direct to football league yet is an important TLA (I have now redirected in to CFL (disambiguation)) —Alan Liefting 22:10, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Launch vehicles → Wikipedia:WikiProject Rocketry —(Discuss)— Move per reorganisation proposal for all space-related WikiProjects. Already discussed in some detail as part of the inital proposal, I am now moving to implement this section. The move will clarify and extend the scope of the project. —-- GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 22:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Blue Swallow → Blue Swallow (film) —(Discuss)— and Blue Swallow (bird) → Blue Swallow — I think people might reasonably expect Blue Swallow to be an article about the bird rather than the film. —PC78 19:36, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Arvandrud/Shatt al-Arab → Shatt al-Arab/Arvandrud —(Discuss)— Shatt name used by over 80% of world's nations, atlases, books; Iran is primary user of Arvandrud name, which should be listed only secondarily as the upper 110 km of the 200 km river is entirely in Iraq. - Sailors → Sailors (nightclub) —(Discuss)— Sailors currently refers to a nightclub in Cornwall, UK. I'd like it to redirect to Sailor and add Sailors (nightclub) to Sailor (disambiguation). —Haus42 11:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Millennium Dome → The O2 —(Discuss)— This is now the official name of the building. By the way if it is possible to subscript the 2 please do so. (Can someone please fix the discussion link off this entry? It's because there's more than one move request previously done on that page). —SuperCoolAl 10:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

- Wilma Blasini Perez → Umi Blasini —(Discuss)— As per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), I request that page be moved to Uma Blasini, as Uma Blasini is the name most commonly used for this person (her professional and stage name and the name she used in the pageant). I belive that this page move would clear up edit wars regarding this subject (see Zuleyka Rivera) —-- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 01:49, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- El Salvador Civil War → Salvadoran Civil War —(Discuss)— I don't see any reason for departing from usual naming conventions for this particular war. I am taking it through discussion because this article has had its name long enough to have accumulated a lot of links to this location (though many are probably due to Template:Cold War). —Groggy Dice T | C 00:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I am also suggesting the original page be turned into a disambig page with a second link to Where no man has gone before as this phrase is just an update —Simply south 17:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Infamous cases of child murder after 1900 → ? —(Discuss)— Name is far too subjective for a Wikipedia article. Also "Infamous" is defined as "shameful, bad in reputation", which applies to all cases of child murder. It could be changed to Notable cases of child murder after 1900, but that's still not ideal. If anyone has any better suggestions. There are also problems with the list itself, is it trying to list every case since 1900, or just ones people remember? And who decides? —Masaruemoto 17:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
