Wednesday "Wendy" Christensen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), the main character of Final Destination 3.

Final Destination 3 is a 2006 horror film, the sequel to Final Destination 2 and the third film in the Final Destination series. It was distributed by New Line Cinema, written by Glen Morgan, and James Wong, produced by Craig Perry and directed by James Wong, who directed the first Final Destination movie. The film was originally scheduled to be released on February 24 2006, but the date was changed to February 10, two weeks earlier than the original set release. In addition, on February 8, in major cities in the United States, early screenings were shown to audiences who applied for online tickets. The DVDs (separate full screen and widescreen 2-disc editions) were released on July 25, 2006. The movie made its cable television debut on HBO (which like New Line is owned by Time Warner), exactly one year (February 10, 2007) after its theatrical release (February 10, 2006)

Plot

It is six years after the Flight 180 disaster when Wendy and some friends go to an amusement park, but instead, it turns out to be a deadly night. Wendy has a gruesome premonition that shows the end of her and her friends' lives while boarding a ride. She screams to get out of there and as a result, Wendy, Kevin, Julie, Perry, Ian, Erin, Lewis, Frankie, Ashley and Ashlyn get out of the ride. Wendy then realizes that death has a plan to stop her and the other survivors' lives. She teams up with Kevin and they try to stop Death's design (see below).

Cast and characters

• Wednesday "Wendy" Christensen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead): Although she is the one who has the premonition and warns everyone about the disaster, at first she is skeptical of the idea that Death is still after the survivors of the crash. Her boyfriend's best friend, Kevin (also a survivor of the disaster), convinces Wendy that they are now on Death's list by using examples from the other films (Flight 180 from the first Final Destination movie) to convince her. She didn’t notice her sister Julie or Perry in her vision, but later finds out about Julie in time to save her. Wendy would have been the sixteenth and last person to meet death on the roller coaster. She sat next to Kevin, in the second-last row.
• Kevin Fischer (Ryan Merriman): Kevin aids Wendy in attempting to intervene the deaths of fellow survivors of the crash. They develop a romance while fighting Death together. He convinces Wendy that Death is after them. He would have been the fifteenth person to meet death on the roller coaster. He sat next to Wendy, in the second-last row.
• Ian McKinley (Kris Lemche) and Erin Ulmer (Alexz Johnson): Ian and Erin are of the gothic life style. They are extremely intelligent young people and are boyfriend and girlfriend. They had a very close relationship and after Erin's death, Ian is enraged, mainly at Wendy. They aren't completely convinced that Death is after them, and they mock Wendy and Kevin throughout the movie. Ian's doubts turn to hatred (verging on fear) towards Wendy and he threatens to kill her, although ultimately the film reveals that Ian's plan was just to scare her. Ian would have been the eleventh and Erin the twelfth people to meet death on the roller coaster. They sat four rows from the back.
• Ashlyn Halperin (Crystal Lowe): Ashlyn is a stereotypical beauty queen. A bit more bright and sensitive than her chum, Ashley, and definitely the brains of the pair. She would have been the seventh person to meet death on the roller coaster. She sat four rows from the front, next to Ashley.
• Ashley Freund (Chelan Simmons): Ashley is a stereotypical head cheerleader. All she cares about is winning, looking great, and getting guys. Ashley is with her best friend Ashlyn at the fair. Her clumsiness indirectly causes her and Ashlyn's actual death. She would have been the eighth person to meet death on the roller coaster. She sat four rows from the front, next to Ashlyn.
• Julie Christensen (Amanda Crew): Julie is not a senior, but joins her two friends (Perry and Amber) at the fair. She is Wendy’s younger sister. She is the "queen-bee" of her little social clique. She is extremely resistant to her older sister and Kevin when they try to save her from Death's list. She and her sister have a distant relationship. Wendy does not know that Julie was on the roller coaster in the vision, but figures it out just in time. She would have been the thirteenth person to meet death on the roller coaster. She sat three rows from the back, next to Perry.
• Perry Malinowski (Maggie Ma): Perry is not a senior, but joins her two friends (Julie and Amber) at the fair. She is only in a couple of scenes with Julie and Amber but plays a part in the climactic ending. Wendy and the other characters don't know that she was on the roller coaster in the vision until seconds before she dies. She would have been the fourteenth person to meet death on the roller coaster. She sat three rows from the back and was sitting next to Julie.
• Lewis Romero (Texas Battle): Lewis is an African-American jock. He is extremely athletic and has a big ego. He scares lesser people into doing his bidding (as shown in the opening sequence of the movie). In each Final Destination movie, there is always a character who is the biggest skeptic and doesn't believe that Death is coming at all. Lewis is the skeptic of this movie. He would have been the tenth person to meet death on the roller coaster. He sat alone in the seventh row.
• Franklin "Frankie" Cheeks (Sam Easton): Frankie graduated from school two years ago, but continues to go to the school fair. He was stalking Ashlyn and Ashley (fellow survivors of the crash). He would have been the ninth person to meet death on the roller coaster and coincidentally was ejected off the roller coaster with Ashley and Ashlyn. He sat six rows from the back.
• Jason Robert Wise (Jesse Moss): Jason is Wendy's boyfriend and Kevin's best friend. He remains in the roller coaster after Wendy's vision (although he begs the operator to let him out). He is one of the first to die on the roller coaster. He is sitting next to Kevin's girlfriend, Carrie, in the front carriage when it derails.
• Carrie Dreyer (Gina Holden): Carrie is Kevin's girlfriend and Wendy's best friend. She remains in the roller coaster after Wendy's vision. In Wendy's premonition, Carrie is one of the first to die when the front part of the coaster derails and she is ejected out of her seat. She sat next to Wendy's boyfriend Jason in the front carriage.
• Amber Regan (Ecstasia Sanders): Amber is not a senior, but goes to the fair with her two friends (Julie and Perry). Amber is not a major character, but appears in scenes with Julie and Perry. She wasn't on the roller coaster and is not on Death's list.

Note: The seven people in carts one and two are not main characters since they remain on the ride and die. If one looks closely at Wendy's computer when Julie steals back her bracelet, you can clearly see their names printed on post-it notes. They are; Marcus, Jill, Scott, Elle, and Rob.

Clues

Photos: At the opening sequence of the movie, Wendy takes pictures of the fair for the year book. After the vision of the roller coaster disaster, Wendy finds that each picture with the would-to-be-victims of the roller coaster holds clues and keys to their next planned death. These clues are:

• Jason Robert Wise: The photo of Jason is taken on an angle that seems to show the rollercoaster heading full-speed into Jason's head.
• Carrie Dreyer: In her picture, Carrie is holding two stuffed animals, and due to a disturbance at her right, she seems to have arrived there fast, an allusion to the fact that the cart she will be in is going to speed down to the ground. The stuffed animals she is holding beside her appear to represent a roller coaster harness.
• Ashley Freund and Ashlyn Halperin: Just after winning a water gun game at the fair, the girls are given a blow-up palm tree. Wendy takes a picture of the two girls posing with their prize. A flash of light behind the camera when the photo is taken causes the girls to appear as if they are on fire. Also, the inflatable palm tree has a symbolic function; since wood comes from trees, this sybolizes the wooden shelf in between them later, or it could possibly represent the palm tree that knocked over the rack on the wall in the tanning salon that caused the death of the two. The tanning place they go to also has a palm tree as the logo
• "Frankie" Cheeks: Kevin mistakenly takes a picture of Frankie. A fan mounted on a wall above Frankie appears as if it is slicing through the top of his head.
• Lewis Romero: Lewis is seen competing in a Strong-Man game. In the distance, a toy bear can be seen crying, and a Sultan next to Lewis is seen holding two crossed swords. Due to the angle that Lewis is on, the weight of the Strong-Man game appears to topple on his head.
• Ian McKinley and Erin Ulmer: In Ian and Erin's picture, flags can be seen in a vertical position with the letters "S-K-I-L-L"; due to a shadow, it reads "K-I-L-L". Ian is pointing an air rifle at Erin by mistake due to the confusion of the flash of the camera. Erin is blocking her face with her right hand. Also in the background, if one looks closely, a pigeon can be seen in the shooting game Ian and Erin are at, possibly representing the pigeon Ian kills, and the pigeons that killed Erin in her alternate death scene.
• Julie Christensen and Perry Malinowski: A picture of the girls shows Julie giving the finger with Perry behind her. In the background is a merry-go-round; one of the horses appears to be charging at Julie's head. A flag can be seen above Perry's head.
• Kevin Fischer: Wendy takes a close-up picture of Kevin, causing him to scrunch up his face. The photo shows Kevin's face is heavily exposed.
• Wendy Christensen: A picture of her and her boyfriend Jason is seen, although Jason's face is extremely blurry due to a sudden movement. The photo gives the illusion that Jason is in desperate need of help by the way that he is draped over Wendy. The word "McKinley" is visible on the front of her shirt,which is the name of the town and Ian’s last name, meaning that Ian is in front of her before her death is caused. The background behind them is completely pitch black.

Misc.: Apart from the photos, Wendy also experienced signs in her everyday life.

• The Fortune Teller: During the opening credits, a fortune-telling machine can be seen with several tarot cards laid out before it. The three cards that have names which can be read by the viewer are "Fate", "The Devil", and "Death".

There is another clue to Ashlyn and Ashley's death, in the beginning sequence of the movie, there is a poster for a circus act called the electric sisters, and it shows two women side by side with electric devices attached to their heads, emphasizing the tanning salon scene where the two girls were burned to death.

• The Fair: A ride at the fair was called "High Dive"; due to an electrical short, the sign read "High D-I-E".
• The roller coaster queue: Frankie describes Ashley and Ashlyn as "smoking hot" which refers to them being burned at the tanning salon.
• Wendy's room: While trying to contact Ashley and Ashlyn via Ashley's cell phone, Wendy's lamp blows out and its bulb shatters, like the bulbs in the tanning beds.
• Drive-Through: While waiting at the drive-through at a fast food restaurant, Wendy encounters two signs. The first one is an electronic sign at the speaker box. Due to a "natural electrical failure", the word control flickers, symbolizing loss of control. Then Kevin's radio malfunctions, causing the song "Turn Around, Look At Me" to turn on by itself. Wendy looks behind and notices a truck rolling down a hill with no driver.
• Drive-Through: The truck Wendy sees has ROLLING THUNDER written on it.
• Build It!: Wendy notices a breeze sweep through when in death's presence. This breeze sweeps through the hardware store, where she, Kevin and the next victims, Ian and Erin, have met. As the gust passes, Wendy pulls Ian out of harm's way.
• Driving to the Tricentennial: Wendy's car radio tunes itself to "Turn Around, Look At Me" again. She does so and sees Ian trailing behind her, supposedly looking to avenge Erin's death.
• At the Tricentennial: After Wendy calls Kevin to tell him that Julie is next to die, he looks around the area. The first thing he looks at is the food stand with the worker making ka-bobs. The second thing he notices is a blacksmith making horseshoes (which symbolizes the horse that drags Julie through the fair). The third thing is a soldier holding a sword (the way Kevin eventually saves Julie) The last thing he notices is the "McKinley Celebrates the Tricentennial" sign (this symbolizes Ian's future death). Also, while he looks at the sign, A guy dressed like Ben Franklin says, "I would like to experiment with this kite and key; all I need is some lightning".
• Subway: While on the subway, Wendy picks up a strange and eerie feeling while looking at advertisements on the train. Among them are advertisements for the Phoenix Tanning Salon, Andy's Burgers, and Build It! (the places where Ashley, Ashlyn, Frankie and Erin died). When she glances at the tanning salon sign, girls can be heard screaming (Ashley and Ashlyn). She also notices an advertisement for accounting services. Written below it is "There is no escaping DEATH and taxes." This statement serves two purposes. First, it reminds Wendy that she "can't cheat death," and second, it is an allusion to a quote of Benjamin Franklin. In addition, a busker in the train can be heard playing "Turn Around, Look At Me" with a menacing grin on his face. Wendy decides to get off the train, but is prevented from doing so when she meets Julie there. The train number is 081, and when she looks out of the window she sees the number reflected as 180 on a concave mirror, referring back to Flight 180 in the first movie and that it would end the same way as Flight 180 did, a crash. While Wendy is talking to her friends about going out to eat and which stop to exit the train, she notices the stops Booth and Oswald, a reference to John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald.
• The Second Vision: After meeting Julie and Kevin on the subway, Wendy has a second vision, this time of the subway crashing. The movie ends just as the actual crash begins, and it is unknown if Wendy, Julie or Kevin survive.

Original Design

Death's original design on the roller coaster ride is Ashlyn, Ashley, Frankie, Lewis, Ian, Erin, Julie, Perry, Kevin, and then Wendy. The order in which they actually die is different because some characters' deaths are prevented by other characters and they are moved to the end of Death's list.

Annabel's Orginial Design

On my final destination 3, death's design on the roller coaster are Ashlyn, Ashley, Frankie, Lewis, Simon, Gabriella, Ian, Erin, Rachel, Jonathan, Julie, Amber, Cody, Madison, Kevin, and Wendy. Five months passed and the survivors from death's design are Gabriella, Erin, Rachel, Julie, Cody, Madison, Kevin, and Wendy. The survivors went on a train and suddenly crashes. Erin, Rachel, Madison, and Wendy woke up with some wounds in their body.Then, another train came and was about to hit them, but that was only a vision Wendy had. The survivors may still have a chance to escape and change the design again and will still be alive.

Actual Orders

Due to interventions, the order of deaths in the movie ended up being: Ashlyn, Ashley, Frankie, Lewis, Erin, Perry, Ian, Julie, Kevin and then Wendy. However, on the special "Choose their Fate" feature on the DVD, you can choose to save Frankie, and he does not die, at least not seen in the movie.

• Carrie Dreyer: Dies on the rollercoaster.

• Jason Robert Wise: Dies on the rollercoaster.

• Ashlyner Halperin and Ashley Freund: Death by Incineration and Electrocution.

Ashley and Ashlyn decide to get a tan at Phoenix Tanning Salon to look their best at graduation. When they arrive, the owner of the salon (Yuri) is talking on his cell phone. Yuri allows the girls to manage the tanning beds themselves. Ashley sneaks her Slurpee in to the tanning room (Yuri forbids drinks near the tanning beds). Ashley takes one final sip of her Slurpee and places it on a shelf above the control box of the tanning beds. Ashlyn decides that the room is "chilly" and decides to raise the temperature by a few degrees. Due to the fact that Ashlyn had risen the temperature, the Slurpee begins to drip. A bit of water from Ashley's Slurpee drips in to the control box resulting in a spark which leads to the temperature of the room to increase and the heat of the tanning beds to intensify without the duo's knowledge. Ashley leans over a shelf to get some music but unknowingly loosens a few screws attaching the shelf to the wall. Ashley and Ashlyn get undressed and get in to their tanning beds. Ashlyn decides that the tanning beds are getting a little too warm, but Ashley continues to listen to her music. Wendy attempts to warn them of the danger via Ashley's cell phone. This causes the phone to vibrate in Ashley's coat pocket, causing the coat to wobble slightly. Due to the rising temperature of the room, the air conditioner kicks in and knocks the rack over, creating a domino effect. The rack crashes into a Palm Tree which topples onto the loose shelf. This knocks the shelf off the wall and on to Ashley's bed. Both the girls attempt to get out of their beds, but the shelf slides off of Ashley's bed and jams into Ashlyn's bed handle, locking it shut. It then does the same to Ashley's bed. Both the girls attempt to open the beds, but are unsuccessful. Ashley begins to struggle violently and desperately to get out, while Ashlyn screams and tries to get out from above her head, where a fan is blocking the way. Yuri hears the screaming, but realizes that the sun tan lotion container he was using as a door stopper had lodged under the door, locking him from going in. He then goes around to the front entrance, but the door is also locked shut (by Ashley and Ashlyn, who didn't want anyone to come in and see them naked). During this time, the bulbs on top of Ashley's bed explode and the hot glass shatters all over her, while they begin to develop boils all over their bodies. They both continue struggling, while their skin becomes blistered and burned. Due to Ashley's violent struggling to get out, the glass shatters underneath her and she falls in to electrical wires. An electrical wave causes Ashley's sun bed to erupt in flames, engulfing her in an instant. She continues to struggle even though her whole body is on fire just as the glass above Ashlyn breaks and fire erupts from the bulbs killing Ashlyn, Ashley is still screaming and dies moments after turning to look through the opening of the bed. Ashley and Ashlyn both end up burning to death.

• Franklin "Frankie" Cheeks: Death by Head trauma.

After Ashley and Ashlyn's funeral, Wendy and Kevin head to a drive-thru. Ahead of them, there is a man in a convertible, and behind them, a bickering couple in a truck. A large beer truck backs up into Kevin’s truck from the passenger side, and Wendy is trapped. As the two sit and wait, the radio malfunctions, and "Turn Around, Look At Me" by The Vogues plays. Wendy turns around and notices a large truck rolling down a steep hill, picking up speed as it heads for the drive-thru. Kevin’s door cannot open because it is against the wall of the drive-thru. Kevin honks to get the guy ahead to pull up, but he only responds by giving them the finger. The car behind Wendy and Kevin begins to back out of the drive-thru as Kevin breaks the windshield; he and Wendy escape just as the runaway truck smashes into Kevin’s vehicle. His pick-up truck is then mounted onto the convertible, and the motor shoots out of the hood, slicing into the driver's head with the motor-fan. Wendy and Kevin look up, and notice that the person ahead of them was Frankie. The motor-fan spins once more, further slicing open the back of Frankie’s head.

• Lewis Romero: Death by Crushing and Decapitation.

While lifting weights his arms extend upwards with a Bowflex-like machine and hit the wall containing his school motto and two metal swords. Everytime Lewis hits the wall, the unstable swords shift. After proclaiming "You can't fucking kill me!" he extends his arms, loosening the swords as they slice the wires holding the weights in mid-air. He lifts the weights once more while taunting death and the two giant weights fall and crush Lewis' head, sending blood towards Kevin and Wendy.

• Erin Ulmer: Death by Impalement/ Head trauma.

The stakes continue to crash to the floor after Kevin tackles Ian and saves him. Among them are multiple large boards and supplies dropping down from the shelf, landing on Ian and Kevin. Wendy falls in this situation and takes cover under a fallen board. A large wooden board lands on the tip of a particular stake, propeling it through a tall bag of sawdust. The sawdust flies into Erin’s eyes, and she slips backwards on the sawdust which was already on the floor. Her head meets the nozzle of a nail gun, which proceeds to pump a round of nails through Erin’s head, pinning her left hand to her face. Ian takes this hard, and screams "NO!" at Wendy while his eyes become watery with tears.

• Perry Malinowski: Death by Impalement.

When Julie barely gets saved after being almost dragged into a wheat thresher by a horse, Wendy immediately asks Julie who was sitting with her on the roller coaster, and Perry stands up in fear. The horse that was dragging Julie along has been tied to a flagpole, but is again frightened by some fireworks. It breaks free, sending the flagpole shooting up into the air at full speed, and as Perry stands, the flagpole spears her from behind, splattering blood everywhere.

• Ian McKinley: Death by Bisection and Blunt force trauma.

After following Wendy to the fair, Ian tries to intimidate her, unknowingly backing up under a large cherry picker. A cart of fireworks tips over, launching them at the gang of survivors, missing all of them, but exploding at the base of the cherry picker. The joints of the arm loosen, and the cherry picker collapses downwards, the basket and sign smashing into Ian. The force of the falling basket cuts him in half at the shoulder down, crushing his right half (right shoulder, arm, and leg under the basket) and sending the left half (head, left shoulder, arm, and leg) flying out from under the basket. His left middle finger spasms, flipping the remaining survivors off.

• Julie Christensen: Possible Death by Blunt force trauma

Five months after Perry & Ian were gruesomely killed, the remaining survivors meet up by fate in a subway train. A candy bar on a near by platform falls to the railway tracks. A rat attempts to steal this snack, but due to cut wires, the rat sets off the electricity, killing it instantly. In addition, the tracks malfunction and take a wrong turn. The train the survivors are on immediately loosens from the tracks in a similar way to the roller coaster in the opening sequence. The train becomes a death trap and is bumping against the sides of the subway tunnel. Julie experiences quite a few close calls before her eventual downfall. The back carriage detaches from the front carriage, sending the back carriage swerving around the front carriage which eventually leads the train in a V shape. The front carriage crashes into what looks to be column's in the tunnel which splits the carriage in half. Where the half is split, Julie is standing but she manages to duck for cover just in time. The top half of the front carriage is now completely on its own, spiralling down the subway, with Julie, Kevin and Wendy the only remaining survivors of the destruction so far. Julie steadies herself and stands up, dangerously close to the opening of the carriage. A wheel of the carriage flicks up through the carriage door and takes out Julie through the next door in a flash with gory results.

• Kevin Fischer: Possible Death by Decapitation and Blunt force trauma

A few seconds after Julie dies, Kevin is thrown against a window. The bucking train made it difficult to re-balance himself, and eventually the window shatters, dragging his head and body through the tiny space between the wall and the subway.

• Wendy Christensen: Possible Death by Blunt force trauma

At the end of the carnage, Wendy wakes up with a broken leg and on the opposite tracks. Helpless and immobile, she sees the oncoming train and screams. It doesn't stop in time. However this turns out to be a vision, so she, Kevin, and Julie may actually survive.

Rating

Final Destination 3 was rated R by the MPAA for strong horror violence/gore, language, and some nudity. It received a 15 certificate for the same reasons in the United Kingdom. In Germany, it received an 18 certificate, in contrast to the 16 received by the first two installments, due to the increased relative intensity of violence and gore.

Response

On Rottened Tomatoesss, the film was rated at 45%[1], the original two films received equally poor scores. Besides deriding the film for the high level of violence and the reference to the attacks on the World Trade Center in September 2001, a common complaint directed at the film was that it failed to offer anything new. The BBC awarded a rare 1 star out of 5 [2], after awarding the first installment four stars and the second three.

Box office

The film was released in the United States on February 10, 2006 showing across 2,880 screens with an opening weekend slightly under $20 million U.S. dollars. As of April 16, 2006, FD3 had made $54,098,051 stateside, though the movie continued to screen across the country for another seven weeks after domestic tallies closed. The film grossed even more in foreign markets, raking in over $59 million as of Early August. Worldwide recorded gross has now reached approx. $113,270,000 so far, outperforming both the original and first sequel in the series. As of late October 2006, Japan gross tallies have yet to be calculated. The DVD rentals reached nearly $45 million, making FD3 the longest running video in the top 50 chart of October 29th (boxofficemojo) and the 4th best grosser of the 50 films on the list.

• The movie is set in Pennsylvania, proven by car license plates, and on the police department's glass doors, which depicts the state's seal, with State of Pennsylvania surrounding it. However, Pennsylvania's formal name is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, not the State of Pennsylvania. The first film was based on a real life class of students from Pennsylvania who died in a plane on the way to France.
• There appear to be many instances of product placement pertaining to Apple, Inc.'s products; for example, the main character uses a Mac while iPods are shown prominently throughout the film.
• In the Subway car at the end of the movie, Wendy looks on the map where we see the stops named "Booth", "Oswald", "Ruby Drive", "McVeigh", "Hidell", "Tippit", and "63rd". These are all references to well-known assassins. John Wilkes Booth (assassin of Abraham Lincoln), Lee Harvey Oswald (assassin of John F. Kennedy), Jack Ruby (night-club owner who killed Oswald), Timothy McVeigh (terrorist of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995), Alek Hidell (Oswald's alias), J. D. Tippit (slain by Oswald following Kennedy's assassination), and 63rd (referring to a Chicago serial killer known as "The Monster of 63rd Street", Dr. H. H. Holmes).
• Ian's last name, the high school's name, and the town's name, McKinley, refer to President William McKinley, who was assassinated.
• Writers paid tribute to the band The Ramones in each installment of Final Destination.
• In the DVD version, viewers are given the option to "Choose their Fate", narrated by Kristen Cloke(who plays Val Lewton) of the original movie. Throughout the movie they are asked to change certain details to achieve different outcomes and to possibly spare an innocent life. In reality, these difference usually did not save anyone but only altered either how they died or small insignificant details. For example, in the scene when Ashley and Ashlyn are supposed to die in tanning beds, the room is too cold for the girls' preference. Viewers are able to choose 73 degrees or 76 degrees. Upon choosing a lower temperature, both girls die burning in the beds. Upon choosing a higher temperature, Ashlyn is alerted and climbs out of the tanning bed only to be knocked out by the falling shelf. Ashlyn awakens and tries to save Ashley, grabs her hand and they are both electrocuted to death. Only Frankie, Carrie and Jason can be saved.
• The only two references to the second movie are the pictures of the Route 23 pile-up that Wendy shows Kevin, and the Hice Pale Ale truck seen on the freeway that boxes in Kevin’s truck at the burger drive-thru. And still one direct and "hidden" reference was afforded in the DVD version's special features. At the end of the movie, a homeless person is sleeping on a subway bench, blanketed by newspapers reporting the death of the final two people involved in the "Route 23 Pile-up". They were originally meant to die in the train, but the actors couldn't make it to the movie set because of scheduling problems.
• Wendy Christensen was originally intended to be a cousin of Kimberly Corman from Final Destination 2.
• The title was previously known as Cheating Death: Final Destination 3 and Final Destination 3-D. 3-D was considered for the film, but it was deemed too expensive and complicated.
• The song that playing on the radio in the weight room scene is (Həd) P.E.'s "Killing Time".
• In the original script, Ashley and Ashlyn were "Jennifer and Jessica"; Lewis was "Hector"; Ian was "Logan"; Frankie was "Scotty"; Erin was "Phoebe". On IMDb, Perry was listed as "Ling". Frankie's last name originally didn't have an "S", and was changed by Sam Easton in his audition.
• The Devil's Flight roller coaster featured in the movie is actually the "Corkscrew" at Playland in Vancouver, Canada. In the opening credits, the name Corkscrew is seen up in lights.
• Alexz Johnson (Erin) broke her nose while shooting the roller coaster sequence.
• In the original script, Ian McKinley was a female character who tried avoiding her boyfriend. Erin was originally a male character.
• When Ashlyn and Ashley lie in the tanning beds they listen to the song "Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players, refering to the rollercoaster that could have killed them. A common urban legend surrounding the song is that the scream heard during the song was left in as a tribute to a model murdered by the band's manager while the song was being recorded. Snopes claims the legend is false. The scream is edited into the tanning salon scene twice, the second time just before the girls realize the danger they are in.
• The tagline of the movie "This Ride Will Be The Death Of You" is also from a lyric of the song "Queen of Apology" by The Sounds (which plays in the lobby of the tanning salon), "This will be the death of me." Final Destination 3 is a product of New Line Cinema and The Sounds are a product of New Line Records.
• As revealed in "Death's Design: Making Of Final Destination 3," the actors in the rollercoaster scene had to ride the roller coaster various times to get it right.
• Tony Todd is the only actor that has been in all three Final Destination movies, though he has been given a minor role.
• The cherry picker that falls on Ian McKinley in the tricentennial scene is in the same shape as the wooden stakes that fall in the Build It! scene.
• Vanessa Anne Hudgens auditioned for the role of Julie, but lost to Amanda Crew.
• Erin's death can be foreseen in the opening credits when we see a picture of a lady with nails in her face.
• When both Kevin And Wendy are looking at the pictures after the funeral, Kevin asks Wendy to look at Frankies picture. Kevin then turns the car a little to the left almost hitting the tow truck, seen in the metal bumper you can see the front of the camera truck.

Sequel

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and her co-star Ryan Merriman have both stated in interviews that Glen Morgan wants to make another film, but they are not sure if they will be in it.

It was recently revealed on http://www.bloody-disgusting.com that New Line, pleased with the film's box office and DVD sales, has begun talks for another sequel. If the new movie follows the same production timeline of the first three, it will most likely be released sometime in 2009. Nothing else is known as of this writing.
