Details of her early life and education, which might have influenced her later involvement in micronationalism, are not extensively documented.
Reign as Queen of Ladonia
Shelby was proclaimed Queen of Ladonia on June 2, 2011. Her coronation was held on September 19, 2011, at Nimis, the art structure around which Ladonia was created.[7] The role of Queen includes the "traditional" duties of a constitutional monarch and works alongside the Cabinet of Ministers, representing and governing the micronation.[7] As the public face of Ladonia[8][9], she has been a participant and speaker at several international micronation conferences. Involvement in these events has raised Ladonia's profile in the micronational community and resulted in international media coverage. Notable conferences include: PoliNation 2012[10] and 2015, MicroCon 2015, 2019, and 2022, and MicroCon 2023 where Ladonia served as host nation in the US, and as co-host nation with Flandrensis in Europe.
During her tenure, Ladonia has seen significant developments, particularly in its digital infrastructure and international relations. Shelby has been instrumental in creating a more accessible digital presence for Ladonia, including establishing social media accounts and revamping the official website. As part of efforts to protect the intellectual property of the micronation, "Ladonia" was successfully registered as a trademark in Sweden and in the European Union in late 2022 and mid-2023, respectively.[11]
