The station started as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang operating of George Town, Penang on 24 August 1934. With the independence of Malaya on 31 August 1957 after its establishment the radio station Radio Malaya.
On 19 January 1971, Radio Malaya which was known as Stesen Pulau Pinang and Radio Stesen Pulau Pinang.
On 6 September 1989, Stesen Pulau Pinang and Radio Stesen Pulau Pinang was known as Radio 3 Pulau Pinang.
Mutiara FM adopts the easy listening and Oldies radio format with the majority of the playlist consisting of Easy listening and Oldies music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
