Marcelo Augusto Silva Serrano (born 29 November 1979), known as Marcelo Serrano, is a Brazilian manager who worked as coach of Bahia EC (City Football Group) and Coritiba FC in the Brazilian Premier league. Marcelo also worked in the Brazilian National Team, United States National Team, USVI Senior National Team, Austin Bold FC[1] and Joinville EC.
Coaching career
Brazil
Serrano has a Brazilian and international coaching career. Serrano was named technical director, head coach and assistant coach for Joinville Esporte Clube (Joinville SC) of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B in 2012,[2] occasionally serving as the head coach of the squad that would win the Copa Santa Catarina championship.[3]
The following year, Serrano joined Coritiba Foot Ball Club (Coritiba FC) as assistant coach [4] and worked trough the ranks to become head coach and technical director. While at Coritiba Serrano and the staff were in 4 finals and won 3 titles in Brazil.
Serrano won a third straight state championship in 2014 with Esporte Clube Bahia, as an assistant coach.[5][6]
In the Brazilian National Team coach Marcelo worked alongside Ney Franco and the highlights were winning the 2011 U20 World Cup in Colombia, 2011 U20 South American Tournament in Uruguay, 2011 U20 Mediterranean International Cup in Spain, 2013 U15 South American Tournament in Uruguay, 2013 8 Nations Cup in South Africa, 2018 U15 Nike International Cup in the United States, 2013 U15 South American Cup in Venezuela.
United States National Team
Serrano had a stint working nearly 3 years at US Soccer and at his time working for the federation he qualified for 2017 U17 World Cup in India and the highlights were winning the 2016 U17 Nike Friendlies in the United States, 2016 U17 Montaigu tournament in France, a Runner-up 2017 U17 CONCACAF Cup in Panama, Runner-up 2016 U17 AIFF Youth Cup in India, Runner-up 2016 U17 Aegean Cup in Turkey and Runner-up 2017 U18 IMG Cup in the United States.
USVI Senior National Team
Serrano was hired in January 2018 as the head coach and general manager of the U.S. Virgin Islands men's senior national team ahead of World Cup qualifiers, the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the CONCACAF Nations Cup.
Austin Bold FC
Serrano was introduced as the first head coach in Austin Bold FC history in 2019, where he won the Texas Cup in the first year. [7]
