Chi Delta Theta [kahy del-tuh they-tuh] ( ΧΔΘ ), also known as "Chi Delts", is an Asian American interest sorority founded on October 13, 1989. The sisters of Chi Delta Theta all strive for academic excellence, cultural awareness, social activity, togetherness, and community involvement.
Together, our goals are to unite clubs and organizations, to educate and enhance the learning of culture, community, to encourage interaction and networking between fraternities and sororities on and off campus, and to provide a support network for our members.
History
Chi Delta Theta was officially established at the University of California at Santa Barbara on October 13, 1989. Alison Suto Stripling and Joanne Yamaoka along with seventeen founding mothers formed the Alpha Chapter of Chi Delta Theta, as the first Asian-American interest sorority on the UC Santa Barbara campus.
After being established as the Alpha Chapter, in the next following years, Chi Delta Theta has expanded throughout California.
Officially founded on February 3, 1992 with ten members at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, The Beta Chapter was established. Along with UCSB, they as well were the first Asian-American interest sorority on the Cal Poly SLO campus.
On February 1, 1997, three women at Loyola Marymount University were initiated as the founding pledge class of Chi Delta Theta. On May 3, 1997, the LMU colony was established. After many weeks of hard work and dedication, they became the Gamma Chapter of Chi Delta Theta.
The ladies of Chi Delta Theta at California State University at Long Beach were initiated into the sorority on October 3, 1997. With success, the Founding Class became a colony on February 28, 1998. On May 22, 1999, with a direct sense of determination and a continuing love for Chi Delta Theta, Cal State Long Beach became the Delta Chapter.
On October 10, 1998, seven young women from the University of California at Davis were initiated into Chi Delta Theta. With this founding class, Chi Delta Theta has expanded to Northern California and continues to grow and demonstrate what sisterhood truly means to all of us. They became the Epsilon Chapter on April 30, 2000.
