Brigade was formed in March 2022, just after the start of [[Russian invasion of Ukraine|russian full-scale invasion]]. After the intensification of fighting in October 2023, during 4 months, 110th brigade successfully repelled the Russian Armed Forces attacks, most of which were in the area of the AKHZ plant and in the area of the village of [[Stepove]], where the [[47th Mechanized Brigade (Ukraine)|47th brigade]] has been deployed. The 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Marko Bezruchko (Template:Lang-uk) is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2022.[1] Since then, it has gained notoriety for its part in the Battle of Avdiivka, and it is said to have performed well in spite of the amount of new Russian resources sent to this front.[2][3][4]

History

Brigade was formed in March 2022, just after the start of russian full-scale invasion. Soon after the formantion, 110th brigade was deployed in Avdiivka, and defends its northern and southern part, as well as AKHZ plant, until present day.[6][7][8]

After the intensification of fighting in October 2023, over the span of 4 months, the 110th brigade successfully repelled the Russian Armed Forces attacks, most of which were in the area of the AKHZ plant and in the area of the village of Stepove, where the 47th brigade was deployed. Russian troops lost at least 13 thousand killed and wounded.[9] Russians lost 13 vehicles for every 1 vehicle lost by the defenders.[10]

Starting from October 2023 members of the US Republican Party have been blocking the US military aid to Ukraine, and consequently since the end of 2023 the UAF in general, and the brigades defending Avdiivka in particular, have been affected by ammuntion shortage, which has been intensifying over time. The UAF tried to compensate the lack of shells with the help of FPV drones, but in foggy weather conditions the use of such drones is very difficult: their flight characteristics deteriorate (sometimes they enen unable to take off) as well as the quality of the camera image.[11]

On February 4, 2024, thanks to foggy weather advantage and the lack of shells 2024, Russian troops conducted a successful attack on the brigade’s positions, broke through and gained a foothold in the northern part of the city. Due to the confusion during attempt to hold and recapture positions, the brigade suffered significant losses. The advance of Russian troops jeopardized the only supply line for Ukrainian troops in the city, making the situation for the defenders close to critical.[12]

On 13 February 2024, the 110th Mechanized Brigade was rotated out of Avdiivka as it "no longer has sufficient capabilities to hold the city". It has defended the city non-stop since March 2022.[13]
