:That doesn't "date" the movie. If anything, it is an anachronism, like numerous others sharp-eyed viewers have pointed out. This was not a big-budget production with endless set designers, prop people, production assistants, etc. The movie's creators often made it clear that the time period was intended to be around 1940, and certainly not post-war. One detail in the movie places the time as no earlier than Christmas of 1947. In the Flick flagpole scene, when the fire truck arrives, a black Chevrolet police car immediately follows from the opposite direction.
