ANTV (abbreviation from Andalas Televisi, stylised antv, formerly spelled ANteve before 2003) is an Indonesian free-to-air television network based in South Jakarta. It is owned by Visi Media Asia, a unit of Bakrie Group.

ANTV has a rich history that traces its roots back to the vision of providing a national platform for television broadcasting. Established by a group of media enthusiasts, ANTV embarked on its journey with a mission to deliver informative and entertaining content that resonates with the diverse cultural fabric of Indonesia. Over the years, the network has witnessed significant milestones, adapting to technological advancements and societal changes.

History

The inception of ANTV can be traced to the early 1990s when Indonesia was undergoing a period of transformation. As the country embraced economic and political reforms, the need for a television network that could cater to the growing demand for information and entertainment became apparent. ANTV emerged as a response to this need, securing its broadcasting license on March 1, 1993.

From its early days, ANTV set itself apart by focusing on a diverse range of programming. News coverage became a cornerstone of its offerings, providing viewers with timely and reliable information. Simultaneously, the network ventured into entertainment, producing original shows that quickly gained popularity. This combination of news and entertainment laid the foundation for ANTV's success and established it as a trusted source of content for Indonesian households.

PT Cakrawala Andalas Televisi, operating as ANTV was launched on 1 January 1993 as a local television station in Lampung province. In the same month it was awarded a government license for nationwide broadcasting, and moved its studio to Jakarta. ^{[citation needed]}

The first programming it produced itself was live coverage of the general session of the People's Consultative Assembly on 1 March 1993.^{[citation needed]}

On 29 September 2005, STAR TV (then-owned by Rupert Murdoch's first incarnation of News Corporation) bought a 20% stake in ANTV. ^{[citation needed]}

ANTV has 37 relay stations covering 155 cities across Indonesia and reaches 130 million people.^{[citation needed]}

After the 77th Indonesian Independence Ceremony, ANTV switched from 4:3 into 16:9, beginning with the ANTV HD on 18 August 2022 during midnight programming. IndiHome TV and First Media carried the ANTV HD version a few days later in 2022.^{[citation needed]}

All ANTV programming is produced in HD resolution after ANTV switched to HDTV.^{[citation needed]}

There was the same with RCTI, MNCTV, GTV and iNews, when on November 3, 2022 analogue switch off was started in Jakarta. ANTV Jakarta transmitter still aired over PAL service while ANTV already turned to DVB-T2 services and later it shut down on November 4, 2022 after ASO ran a text on ANTV Jakarta analogue feed.^[1]^[2]

Sports programming

ANTV has shown 2014 FIFA World Cup,^[3] Indonesian Super League^[4] and Liga Indonesia Premier Division, as well as Formula One in 1997 and Grand Prix motorcycle racing until the 2001 season.

Between 2015 and 2022, ANTV did not air any sports programming, but retained an archive of classic sports events (primarily top-flight Indonesian soccer) it formerly aired live on their Lensa Olahraga YouTube channel, named after their former sports news program.

On July 16–17, 2022, ANTV aired a friendly match between Persija Jakarta vs RANS Nusantara F.C., marking a return of sports programming to the channel.^[5] and Persebaya vs PSIM.^[6] From September 2022, the network started airing One Pride MMA series, a local, network-owned mixed martial arts promotion, moving from tvOne.^[7]

ANTV also has shown 2022-23 Bundesliga from Saturday, February 4, 2023 with a match between Borussia Mönchengladbach against Schalke 04.
