Kashif Nisar (Template:Lang-ur) is a Pakistani television director, producer and screenwriter. The nephew of Pakistani TV Director Tariq Mairaj,[1] Nisar is known for his work as television director on Pakistani Television. He has received several accolades as a screenwriter and as a director.

Career

Nisar made his debut as a screenwriter in 2007 with the family-romance Cousins, aired on PTV Home. He then followed it with Tariq Mairaj's directed Jinnah Ke Naam (2009) starring Saba Qamar, Aagha Ali and Sami Khan. The series was a tribute to Muhammad Ali Jinnah.[2]

Nisar made his directorial debut in 2010 by directing some episodes of ISPR's Faseel-e-Jaan Se Aagay. He directed the episodes Inkaar, Ada-e-Sarfaroshi and Ek Beti, Ek Kahani in the series.[3] The same year, he directed ISPR's Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin which revolves around terrorism and religious extremism.[4] In 2013, he wrote and directed Kami Reh Gaee which revolves around the complexity of various human relationships.[5] The same year, he directed Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi which was originally based on the eponymous short story of Amna Mufti, who wrote the screenplay as well. The series is about the prevalent feudalism in the rural Pakistan. Nisar received his fourth nomination at the 13th Lux Style Awards as a Best TV Director. He stated the series as his personal favourite.[6] He next directed comedy Ghundi which revolves around the sopilt brat daughter of a Pehlwan family.[7]

In 2014, his first directorial was teen-drama Kis Se Kahoon, featuring Sajal Aly, Yumna Zaidi and Aagha Ali. He then directed Sannata, a horrific and thrilling tale of two cousin sisters. The series earned him a Best TV Director nomination at the 14th Lux Style Awards. For the misleading and ambiguous portrayal of a rapist in Sangat (2015), his work was met with negative reviews from critics. The series starred Saba Qamar, Mikaal Zulfiqar and Zahid Ahmed as the preparator.[8] In 2016, he directed Dumpukht - Aatish-e-Ishq starring Nauman Ijaz, Sonia Mishal and Bilal Abbas Khan, and revolves around a girl enchanted by the allure of a charismatic Pir. Nisar received his fifth nomination as a Best Television Director at the 16th Lux Style Awards for the series. He next directed O Rangreza which tells the story of a poet who mistreats his wife while loves an actress. The conflicts arise when her daughter aspires to be like her. The series features Nauman Ijaz and Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas Khan in key roles. For his direction of the series, Nisar won Best Director Drama Serial at the 7th Hum Awards and a nomination of Best TV Director at the 17th Lux Style Awards. He then directed the romance Intezaar. His next series as a director was Pinjra (2017) which aired on A-Plus TV and sheds light on the evil custom of Vanni. The same year, he received praise for the sensitive portrayal of abuse in normal households in Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila and won his first Lux Style Award in the category of Best Television Director at the 18th Lux Style Awards.

In 2018, he again collaborated with Zafar Mariaj for Lashkara which tells the story of a acid-throwing victim. The same year, his directorial Ranjha Ranjha Kardi which revolves around a mentally challenged person and his romance with a garbage collector, received positive reviews. He received critical acclaim and a Lux Style Award for Best TV Director at the 20th Lux Style Awards for his work.[9] In 2019, he made his third collaboration with Zafar Mairaj for Inkaar. The series was inspired by the real-life incident of Khadija Siddiqui who stabbed by her class fellow and follows the struggle of a university student against the flawed judicial system. The series received positive reviews with Nisar's direction was particularly noted.[10] In 2021, he made his second collaboration with Bee Gul for romance Raqeeb Se, which revolves around the repercussions of love of two married individuals, stretched across their entire lives. For the series, Nisar received his third award in the Best TV Director category at the 21st Lux Style Awards.
