The first few paragraphs of the article gives succinct of trans individuals and are very cautious with their wording, which I appreciate. It then continues to talk about the stigma, discrimination, and violence that many trans individuals suffer with at the hands of cis-gender individuals. It then continues to talk about their study. This article also talks about health care communication for trans indivudals as well. |

Option 1: Trans Communication - Cisheteronormativity
- Section Overview
This section should include information about cisheteronormativy and how it is manifested in our communication and perpetuated by our culture. Additionally, it should include trans studies and critiques of the field. Just from looking at the research, we will have to talk a lot about gender and sexuality, which may be obvious just by reading our topic title. One word I saw a lot while looking at research articles is the word multiplicity, along with heterosexism.
- Topic Focus
One topic of research that should be in this section is information about cisheteronormativity. Cisheteronormativity is the belief that all people identify with the gender that corresponds to the one that they were given at birth and that they also identify as heterosexual. This is the belief that cisgendered heterosexual people are the most natural identities and that people automatically identify with that identity. It is important to trans communication because cisheteronormativity erases the possibility that someone would want to identify as any other gender than the one that they have at birth.

I would like to include Manifestations and Reinforcement of Heteronormativity in the Workplace: A Systemic Scoping Review[1] by Sara Corlett. This article talks about the manifestations of heteronormativity in a workplace and how it is perpetuated in certain organizations, including how employees interact with each other. The research article also suggests other ways that heteronormativity can be studied in the future. I chose this specific article because it seemed to have a firm and tight understanding of heteronormativity is overall.

Option 2: Trans Communication - Cisheteronormativity
- Section Overview
See option 1.
- Topic Focus
This article also focuses on cisheteronormativity which I described in option 1 above. This article does have a different focus though because it is mostly talking about inclusive education and how authority figures should challenge heteronormativity in their classrooms. However, it does have the same relative themes and still teaches about cisheteronormativity.

I would like to include What can teachers do to challenge heteronormativity? A systemic literature review[2] by Beckett Markland. Instead of focusing on the bads of cisheteronormativity, I think it would also be productive to talk about the solutions to fighting cisheteronormativity and this article talks about exactly that while still adding on good definitions about what heteronormativity is. The certain sections that this article has includes barriers to LGBTQ+ inclusive practice, integrating non-normative representations throughout curriculum, and role modeling inclusivity.

Option 3: Trans Communication
Section Overview
See option 1.
Topic Focus
This section focuses on trans communication specifically and communication surrounding people who do not necessarily identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. This includes trans and gender-diverse individuals, so this can include non-binary individuals.
