Kenneth "Kenny" Johnson (b.July 13, 1963) is an American actor, best known for his portrayal of Detective Curtis Lemansky, nicknamed "Lemonhead" or "Lem," on the American drama The Shield, which airs on FX Networks.
Raised in Vermont, Johnson got his start in television commercials, including one of the very first ads for LA Gear. A former champion arm wrestler, he appeared as bit characters in various television programs, such as Family Matters (TV series), Grace Under Fire, Caroline in the City, Sliders, and Just Shoot Me!, before landing the role of Lem on The Shield in 2002. In 1998, he appeared in the first several minutes of the first Blade (film), as Heatseeking Dennis, who was saved (by Blade) from a vampire played by Traci Lords. In October 2005, he appeared in the Smallville Season 5 episode "Mortal" as a metahuman called Tommy Lee and was credited as Kenneth Johnson. He also appeared in the 2006 Hallmark Channel original movie, Desolation Canyon, with Stacey Keach and Patrick Duffy and starred in the 2005 indie film Zzyzx (film), a thriller about two friends who take a detour on their way to Las Vegas.
Since leaving The Shield, Johnson landed a role in the new TNT pilot, Saving Grace (TV Series), as Det. Ham Tipton, Det. Grace Anadarko's (Holly Hunter) partner and lover. He also had recurring role on Cold Case, first as a supposed murder victim, and later as a love interest for Lilly Rush.
The Shield
He originally auditioned for the role of ill-fated Terry Crowley, which ultimately went to Reed Diamond. Fortunately for Johnson, series creator Shawn Ryan was so impressed with his audition that the role of Lem was created especially for him. After five seasons on the show, Johnson's character, Lem, was murdered with an exploding grenade by fellow Strike Team member and best friend, Shane Vendrell, in the March 21, 2006 episode, titled "Post Partum".
Personal life
Johnson married Cathleen Oveson on December 21, 2005.
