Brandon Van Dorn Jawato (born 3 June 1993) is an American-born Indonesian basketball player for the Pelita Jaya Bakrie of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL). He played college basketball for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and represents the Indonesia national team.
Personal life
Jawato got his Indonesian heritage from his father, Nyoman Jawato who is Balinese, his mother, Belinda Van Dorn is American.[1]
College career
Redshirt season (2011-12)
Jawato was awarded a scholarship by University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, to play for their basketball team, the Rainbow Warriors in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. But would be redshirted for the entire season.
Freshman year (2012-13)
Played in 28 games with four starts. Jawato led the team in 3-pointers made. Jawato returned to action vs Chaminade University in December 15, 2012 scoring his first career points, finished with 10 points in 10 minutes of action. He started back-to-back games vs. East Tennessee State University and Ole Miss.
Sophomore year (2013-14)
Jawato Appeared briefly in 14 games, and averaged 3.6 minutes per game. Jawato would also play alongside Christian Standhardinger, who is a member of the Philippines national team.
Career
Participated in NCAA Division 1 basketball at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.[2][3]
After graduating, he made his professional debut in his dad's hometown, in Indonesia, and in 2021 signed with the B League's Utsunomiya Brex.[4] After that, he signed with Seahorses Mikawa[5] in 2022.
And surprisingly on November 16, 2023, Jawato made a comeback to the Indonesian Basketball League, and also to his first professional team, Pelita Jaya.[6]
National team career
Participated in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers as a member of the Indonesian national team, and recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists in the match against Thailand on November 28, 2020.[7]
