Sandra Doorley

Sandra Doorley is the District Attorney for Monroe County, New York. She took office in January 2012, succeeding Michael Charles Green. Doorley is the first woman to serve as Monroe County District Attorney.

Education

Doorley obtained a bachelor's degree from the University at Albany and received her law degree from Syracuse University.

Career

In November 2011, Doorley was elected Monroe County District Attorney, defeating Republican candidate Bill Taylor. Doorley garnered almost 60% of the vote and over 78,000 individual votes. She was sworn in on December 30, 2011 at the Rochester Girls and Boys Club. She became the first female to hold the office of District Attorney in Monroe County. Michael Charles Green (whom she succeeded) joined Doorley's office as an advisor, but left in February 2012 for another position.

In 2015, Doorley switched her party affiliation to the GOP, and was reelected later that year in an election. "Don't judge me by the political party that I'm affiliated with," she said. "Look at the work that I've done."

2024 traffic stop incident

On April 22, 2024, Doorley was spotted by Webster Police traveling at 55 mph in a residential neighborhood with a posted speed limit of 35 mph. The observing officer activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Doorley did not pull over and instead evaded the stop and drove home, calling the Webster Chief of Police while being pursued. At her home, Doorley can be seen on Webster Police body cam responding by saying “I don’t care” when informed by the officer that she was driving at 20 mph over the speed limit. When asked why she failed to yield, Doorley went on to state on camera that she “didn’t feel like stopping” and expressed surprise that the officer would attempt a traffic stop on her official vehicle. Doorley is seen displaying her badge and reminding the officers that she is the one who prosecutes traffic infractions, at one point laughing after remarking, "I really don't care because I'm the one who's going to prosecute myself. You know what I'll do with the ticket?" The footage also shows Doorley resisting Terry stop detention, refusing to follow lawful orders, and directing expletives at the investigating officer while repeatedly invoking her position as District Attorney. Despite committing several arrestable offenses, Doorley was let off with a speeding ticket at the discretion of officers and police command staff at the scene. In a statement the following day, Doorley informed the public that she had pled guilty in answer to the speeding ticket and appeared to highlight her own accountability to the law while downplaying the more serious violations.
