The 2023–24 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the franchise's 107th season (106th season of play) in the National Hockey League. Since the Pittsburgh Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006, the Maple Leafs currently hold a tie for the longest active playoff streak with their rivals, the Boston Bruins, with both making the playoffs every year since 2017. The Maple Leafs played two games in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena on November 17 and 19 as part of the NHL Global Series.[1]
Brad Treliving was named general manager on May 31, 2023, after the team parted ways with Kyle Dubas at the end of the 2022–23 season.[2][3]
On April 5, 2024, the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot for the eighth consecutive season after losses by the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.[4] In the playoffs, the Leafs lost in the first round to the Bruins in seven games, after coming back from a three games to one series deficit, which was their fourth straight loss in a Game 7 against the Bruins in eleven seasons (the other three being in the 2013, 2018, and 2019 playoffs), all of which and including this year were in the first round and played at TD Garden in Boston. This was the Leafs sixth straight Game 7 loss, and their seventh straight loss in the deciding game of a series when factoring in the 2020 qualifying round, which was a five game series played against the Columbus Blue Jackets, since 2013. The last time the Leafs won a Game 7 of a playoff series was in the first round of the 2004 playoffs, against the Ottawa Senators, and the last time they won a playoff series against the Bruins, which also was decided in a Game 7 in Boston, was in the 1959 playoffs. With their elimination from the playoffs, the Leafs championship and finals appearance drought both hit 56 seasons, with the 1967 Stanley Cup Finals being the last time they won the Stanley Cup and appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals.
