Fiona Muir-Harvey[2] (often referred to as Fiona Harvey) is a Scottish law graduate who allegedly inspired Richard Gadd's stage show and Netflix television miniseries, Baby Reindeer.[3][4]
Early life and education
Harvey was born in 1965 or 1966 in Fyvie, in Aberdeenshire.[5] She has said she had a "middle-class upbringing" in rural Scotland.[6] She attended the University of Aberdeen, earning a law degree during the 1980s.[6][7][8]
Baby Reindeer
Following the broadcast of the Netflix television miniseries Baby Reindeer in April 2024, previous tweets from an account linked to Harvey led to speculation she was the real-life inspiration of the character Martha Scott[9] These included a reference to hanging curtains, a sexually suggestive phrase which was later used in the script of Baby Reindeer.[10][11] On the 9th May 2024, following claims Harvey made on X, Harvey was interviewed by Piers Morgan on his online show Piers Morgan Uncensored. During her interview, Harvey admitted she had met Gadd several times at The Hawley Arms, Camden, but denied sending him 41,000 emails or going to his home. She admitted to sending up to 10 emails and a letter as well as several tweets.[12] Harvey stated she was planning to take legal action against both Gadd and Netflix in relation to her portrayal in the series.[5][13] The interview drew some criticism, questioning the ethics behind the decision.[14] She later claimed she was paid £250 to appear, and that the interview left her feeling "a bit used".[15]
Online communications allegations
In the wake of the Baby Reindeer revelations, further harassment allegations emerged in the media. Laura Wray, a lawyer and widow of the Scottish politician Jimmy Wray, stated that she had briefly employed Harvey at her law firm in 1997, and claimed that Harvey had made abusive social media posts after losing her job.[16] It was also alleged that Harvey had sent abusive emails to the British politician Keir Starmer.[17][18]
