Serik Zhumangarin (born 1969, Aktobe) is a Kazakh politician who currently serves as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2022.[1][2]
Education
Zhumangarin holds degrees from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Karaganda Buketov University, and the International Academy of Business.[2]
Career
After a period of entrepreneurial activity (1993-2004), Zhumangarin entered government service. He held various positions in the Aktobe regional administration, including Deputy Head of the Department of Economy and Budget Planning and Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship. He then moved to the Agency for Regulation of Natural Monopolies, eventually becoming the Chairman of the Committee on Regulation of Natural Monopolies and Protection of Competition.[2]
He served as the Vice Minister of National Economy (2017-2019) and Collegium member (Minister) for Competition and Antitrust Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (2019-2020). After returning to Kazakhstan, he served as the Chairman of the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition (2020-2022).[2][3]
In 2022, Zhumangarin was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and Minister of Trade and Integration. As of February 6, 2024, he continues to serve as Deputy Prime Minister.[1][2]
