Petty Officer Pritchett did enter the Royal Domain of Neptunus Rex and was inspected by his Royal scribe Davey Jones and found to be worthy to be called a "Golden Shellback." He later served as "First Mate" to Davey Jones for one tour upon the seven seas.

Currently Carmel Valley is an unincorporated area and is looking into a proposal to form its own municipal corporation[1]. At the time of the 2000 census the population was 4,700.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 49.4 km² (19.1 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 4,700 people, 1,963 households, and 1,279 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 95.1/km² (246.3/mi²). There were 2,105 housing units at an average density of 42.6/km² (110.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.45% White, 0.38% African American, 0.38% Native American, 1.89% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 2.72% from other races, and 2.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.81% of the population.

There were 1,963 households out of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 36.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $70,799, and the median income for a family was $85,191. Males had a median income of $56,083 versus $37,406 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $42,991. About 3.1% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.2% of those under age 18 and 5.1% of those age 65 or over.
