Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph is a vocalist from New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a former member of Tank and the Bangas.[1] and is currently the featured vocalist with the funk band, Galactic [2].

Background

Joseph grew up in the West Bank of New Orleans, and attended L.W. Higgins High School [3]. She began her musical career with a performance of O Holy Night at Celebration in the Oaks in New Orleans’ City Park [3][4] in her senior year of high school in 2017 [5]

Musical Career

After years of gigging with her band, Speakerboxx, Tank and the Bangas, and the Original Pinettes Brass Band [6], she received national recognition as a contestant on Season 14 of American Idol [7]. She received universally positive feedback from the show’s judges, but didn’t advance into the top 24. Joseph was a longtime vocalist with Tank and the Bangas. In NPR’s 2017 Tiny Desk Contest, Joseph along with the other members of Tank and the Bangas, were selected as winners. Their performance is in the top 50 most-watched Tiny Desk Concerts.[8] Joseph received a Grammy nomination as a member of Tank and the Bangas when they were nominated in 2020 for Best New Artist.

In 2021, Joseph joined Galactic as their featured vocalist. She has toured internationally with the group, performing on stages such as New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Red Rocks Amphitheater.[9]

In 2022, Joseph’s live improvised performance with the bounce artist Hasizzle went viral when it was released as the track “Getcha Sum”.[3]

In 2024, Joseph appeared in the 2024 adaptation of the film Road House. Her single, “Ridin’ Round,” was also included on the soundtrack. [10]
